Reminder that obsessing over the perfect tone is a complete waste of time. Non-guitarists can't tell the difference between a Squier/Epiphone or Fender/Gibson. They think all distortion sounds exactly the same, and your expensive Vox tube amp sounds no different than a Marshall MG series.

As is? Hell no, it doesnt belong in a finished product, theres quite a bit of sloppiness. There are some parts where youre really solid. Maybe its a latency issue, maybe youre over thinking timing. Youre not a bad player, just a little sluggish. I definetly think you could play that part well enough to stick it in a mix. Youre on the right track. Change your bass sound, though. Keep it up, youre not bad

If I put a poly finish fender strat (3 tone sunburst, red tort pick guard with a vintage tint maple gloss neck & fretboard) in an AC cooled environment sitting in front of a window getting exposed to UV rays, will the guitar age like guitars of old? Or will it cause damage, e.g. frets, the wood, pups, etc. expand and contract from it?

>>
>>69985893
>though i doubt i can get them much better myself

Just simplify them.

Sounds like you much prefer a more melodic style of playing so you want a melody to echo, whether it be a guitar riff or a vocalist. As long as you maintain some kind of groove around the drummer's strong counts you can ignore all the traditional role stuff like driving low end and crescendos for drum fills. That's where bass gets interesting.

This is a nice example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Y0yNS9-OvQ
>>
>>69985981
>>69985864
You might get it to change but you would probably have to leave it up for a year to notice a difference... Poly guitars do yellow, they just don't check and dry out like old nitro finishes. Guitar stores leave guitars out in their windows all the time, shouldn't damage it.

I wouldn't bother on a sunburst finish, it won't look drastically different even if it did change colors
>>
>>69986239
you don't need to plug in acoustic guitars...

ah, i assumed you'd just be getting pedals for the overdrive etc not stuff like reverb. i'd spend the $300 on a quality amp desu, usually if you're using a cheapo amp they at least have a bunch of effects and stuff like reverb built in so yours must be really barebones
>>
>>69985220
Usually poor witness point at bridge saddle or nut. This means the string is arcing over the nut slot/bridge saddle in a smooth curve instead of at a sharply defined point. Press down firmly on the the string on both sides of the point of contact. Usually that'll fix it.

Nut may need to be filed. Or maybe something went screwy with the bridge. Rare cases you may have got a bum string with a defect in the metal. Neck could be warped but if that is the case you've got bigger concerns than intonation already.

The average bass line in rock or punk is easy, especially if you're coming from a guitar background and go straight to using a pick (being lazy). That is what people are referring to with 'bass is easy'.
>>
>>69987480
>go straight to using a pick

not really lazy, the best punk bassists use picks
>>
>>69987503
I'm referring specifically to lazy ass guitar players who took up bass because band needed a bassist and guitarist drew the short straw. It wasn't an indictment of the use of pick on bass as a viable technique.

the only thing you may need to buy in the future is new drumsticks

I'm a drummer and a guitarist, been a drummer longer than I have played guitar. And i find lately I enjoy solo classical guitar much more than any band or orchestra. There's something beautiful about it, telling a story all on its own it's melodic and rhythmic all at the same time.
>>

Someone asked about the GH head last thread. I love it, one of those bits of gear that surprised me with how versatile it is.

While it won't give you that jangly Fender clean sound there's nothing lacking in the tones is can give you if you dial the EQ right, it does jazz especially well (even on a wankers axe like the Ibanez). With the gain on 0 it also takes quite a bit of volume before it breaks up. The 100w version would no doubt make that better if you wanted uber-clean sounds at a bonkers level.

But the gain is where it shines. It's like a juiced up JCM800 but ever so slightly more modern and dark. A bit mids heavy by default but the EQ section is very subtle in its responsiveness, quite a wide range for each knob. The gain boost can give you silly amounts of distortion too so that's pretty dank. Can get hairy on the background finger noise if you're not careful though. But it's also an extremely clean overdrive, even with unnecessary oodles of gain you can hear every in a chord, that clarity and punch of a lick or run. Very juicy.

Top head for rock based things even just plugged directly into it.

After learning a scale you can use it to help solo during improv over chords or whatever

If you learn multiple scales you can mix and match them together during soloing to make it more creative

They also work great to develop melodies

Anyone can write a cute instrumental ukulele tunes

Learn some different chords such as 7ths, maj7 and min7s

Blending these in with basic chords can make it sound nice, romantic and a bit jazzy.
once you have your smooth chord progression you want a melody. Now you can either make it up from scratch which is the hard way or you can learn a few scales and take from them to piece together the lead

Just remember that it's ok for it to sound horrible, your most favorite artists sometimes make horrible songs that never get released, only their good songs do

You can download a DAW like audacity to record these pieces while you start out and as you get more confident you can buy a more ambitious one

Bonehead did his job, he just had to play big bar chords and stay in time, which he did well.

Noel isn't a brilliant guitarist but he isn't shit either. Can write a decent solo.

I have noticed with Noel his playing sounds kind of amateurish though, does anyone else agree? Like if you listen to a good guitarist like Frusciante/Page you can tell that Noel is pretty 'meh'. His playing just doesn't flow as well I think. I'd like to hear some further input onto this as to why Noel doesn't sound quite as good despite not necesarily playing anything less complex than some of Frusciantes level of solos

Got a question about the tremolo.

Am I getting this right?

Decking the trem => tightening the tremolo down to the body, which prevents using the trem to pitch up notes while allowing it to down pitch notes?

Blocking the trem => jamming the trem into place, preventing any whammy bar fuckery?

Ok assuming those definitions are correct, my question is primarily about decking the trem. If I deck the trem, how wary do I have to be about the tuning and gauge of my strings? Will I notice a difference in how soft or hard it is to use my whammy if I significantly change the gauge and tuning of the strings? Or is it so negligible that I can just deck my trem and forget about it?

Still simple stuff.

Noel is a very average guitarist and says so himself. His strumming patterns are nearly all identical and he's not very creative when it comes to incorporating riffs into his songs. Frusciante is brilliant at that, and although his parts and solos aren't particularly complex his use of effects and funk-like style makes his playing more prominent. Like his solo at the end of Dani California, piece of piss to play but he makes it sound awesome.

Oh god, isn't Creep enough?

Hi /gg/, I've been learning to record (mainly metal style) and I would appreciate it if i could get some harsh criticism for this track.

How much Mids is too much Mids?
My amp has a mid boost, and I'd like to know if I need a tubescreamer, or not.

Can someone post a sound with definitely too much mids?
I know my request is weird, but whatever.

I'd like to see a Frusciante and Noel Gallagher collab but it will never happen

>>69990091
Is he a good guitarist? I've seen him posted a bunch but never heard his stuff

Well you posted a good one already. There's also the ibanez RC series, the Guild T-Bird is a weird looking thing but I haven't tried it.

Try to have your thumb vertically parallel with the neck or almost like that

Something like pic

This way you can't easily apply direct force using your thumb

Hasn't Frusciante gone mental now?

Always been a bit loopy but seems like he has no idea what he's doing anymore.
>>
>>69989517
Yeah that was me, do you think it could do post-metal and doom well if you throw in a decent fuzz pedal?
>>
>>69990133
He's gone back to doing his own thing I think (except without the drugs). As much as he apparently dislikes his time with RHCP he seemed the most mentally stable when he was with them

Yo

How should I go about cleaning my rosewood fretboard?
>>

Ahh, I barely know his solo stuff.

Shame he left RHCP. Whatever people think of them or his playing personally they can't deny his iconic status. Experimental and influenced by a whole range of styles, rock needs more guitarists like him.

He is pretty based. Interesting guy too and he approaches music from a very different perspective than anyone else. Without Frusciante RHCP wouldn't have reached anywhere near what they have reached in terms of fame and success
