Drums and percussion appreciation thread. If this gets enough interest I could make a pastebin and try to start a general that'll probably die in a few weeks but who cares.
Feel free to shitpost as long as it's vaguely related to drums
So:

>Who's your favorite drummer?

>How long have you been playing?

>What set do you have?

>Essential books IYO?

>Do you consider guitarfags inferior?
>>
Can someone recommend a good starter kit?

I'd like to play stuff along the lines of hardcore and emo.
>>
>>69953378
>How long have you been playing
Since 5th grade

>What set do you have
SPD 30

>Do you consider guitarfags inferior?
No.
>>
>>69953401
Check out Millenium, they're cheap and really bang for your buck. As for cymbals, Paiste's budget lines are decent.
>>
drums are the hardest instrument because you have to be the metronome of the band
>>
I just want to say that not all guitarists hate you guys. #notallguitarists
>>
>>69953408
>SPD-30
Are you happy with it? I honestly don't care too much about electronic drums but octapads seem cool.
>>69953550
Yeah but it's also the most fun cause hitting stuff is fun
>>69953714
Aww :^) Don't worry, we don't hate all guitarists too, only our bandmates
>>
>>69953841
>Are you happy with it? I honestly don't care too much about electronic drums but octapads seem cool.
Best piece of equipment I've used in my life. It's absolutely amazing and I love the pre sets on it.
>>
>>69953859
Cool, now I just gotta stop being poor and get one
>>
>>69953949
It's $500. Took me a whole summer to save up for it.

Pedals are even more.
>>
My favorite drummer is Ginger Baker
>>
what album really makes you want to play?
for me it's Spiderland. not because it's incredibly technical or anything, in fact it's pretty subtle but goddamn is it great
>>
>>69954240
It's probably Blood Sugar Sex Magik, the drums sound great and Chad doesn't really do anything too shiny but his grooves are mad catchy and just fit the overall tone perfectly.
>>
>Who's your favorite drummer?
Aidan girt & Bruce Cadron (from GY!BE)
>How long have you been playing?
i havent even started, but im currently saving for a Roland TD 11k which i plan on practicing alot on.
>What set do you have?
none yet
>Essential books IYO?
what kind of books? just regular books? Lolita and Othello
>Do you consider guitarfags inferior?
yeah, because practically any skinnyfat white kid with semi long hair where "music saved their life" wants to learn how to play guitar, also guitar is a WHOLE lot easier to learn.

>>69954240
for me its Lift yr. skinny fists and Spirit they're gone.
>>
>>69954459
>haven't even started
Just get a pair of drumsticks and 2 chairs dude, that's how I played for the first 3 months. And I meant drum-related literature (since you are starting out you should check out Stick Control by George L Stone and Realistic Rock by Carmine Appice, both of those did wonders for my coordination, timing and precision and have thousands of hours worth of exercises), but yeah Othello is alright

Mine is pic related but I respect Baker a lot too cause Zach's style is obviously in it's core inspired by him
>>
>Who's your favorite drummer?
Billy Cobham

>How long have you been playing?
so long i cant remember

>What set do you have?
Just mixed and matched parts from all my previous kits over the years

>Essential books IYO?
idk pornos??

>Do you consider guitarfags inferior?
i also play guitar (and bass) so no
>>
>zach hill because im a pleb
>8 years, still suck
>idk it was 200$ lol
>haven't bothered trying to learn with books
>nah
>>
>>69954671
he's got to go easy on those sticks
>>
>>69954625

>>
>>69956167

How do you learn drums it you're a poorfag and cant have a loud son of a bitch of a drum kit that will piss of neighbors?
What do you buy? Where do you learn?

I've wanted to learn drums for a while but ive never really looked into how to go about it.
>>
>>69956437

how poor are you?

i rented a storage unit for $70 a month. it's amazing--electric kits that feel anywhere close to a real kit cost literally 100x that much.

you can get a starter kit for very cheap on craigslist
>>
>>69956437
i found my first drum kit on the side of the road, still use some pieces of it today, try a music store and see if they have any second hand kits, or go on craigslist or whatever the fuck it is in your country, you can usually find cheap beginner drum kits. and fuck your neighbours man, i used to get complaints but just keep playing everyday and they will be forced to get used to it.
>>
>>69956499
Poor enough that I can't really afford that. Oh well, hopefully I can try and figure something out.
>>
>>69956412
Money
>>
>>69956671
you can get electric kits pretty cheap
>>
>>69955810
well, well fuck. im about half way through and this is actually really good!
>>
>>69956817
But are they really as shitty as people seem to think they are? Or is it reasonable to learn on it and just get something better later? I don't want to buy something that's going to make me not want to play.
>>
bought my nephew the Rogue complete 4-piece drum kit for Xmas. Don't know anything about it; bought it from GC at the sales price of 130 USD. How'd I do?
>>
>>69957010
its still good to learn on since you learn how to hold the stick, get the timing and make a beat etc. you can always get a better set when you have more of a disposable income
>>
>>69957010
Dont bother with cheap electric kits man, cheap acoustics are pretty bad, but dont get me started on cheap electrics. If you get a cheap acoustic and spend enough time tuning it you'll end up with a pretty decent sounding kit.
>>
>>69957144
what if its not about the sound and its just about learning?
>>
>>69956975
yeah man these guys are insane, saw them live last week and man did they put on a show.
>>
>>69957144
>>69957168
I'm concerned with the feel more than with the sound. My first electric guitar was a bitch, and if I could go back in time and make myself choose a better started guitar, I would have probably had more fun practicing. If it sounds like ass I don't mind so much, but if it it's a bitch to play in any way, I don't mind going for a cheap electric kit and getting a better kit later. On top of that, the electric kit would allow me to actually practice, since my neighbors probably wont be cool with me fuckin' around on an acoustic kit.
>>
>>69957168
It can get pretty annoying learning on an electric (speaking from experience) as you dont really get the dynamics and cant get ghost notes and rimshots and some times the sensors dont even pickup the sound which can really throw you off. and as soon as i got an acoustic my playing progressed really fast. i would really recommend learning on a cheap acoustic, if you're going to get electric you're going to want to spend a whole lot of money on one.
>>
>>69957252
how much would you say is a "cheap" electric kit, i plan on spending about $2000 on mine
>>
>>69956437
All you need to start learning now a days are a pair of sticks and a practice pad, or maybe just a pair of sticks with those rubber tips
>>
>>69957291
for $2000 you could get something pretty nice, cheap shit electric drumkits come under the $1000 mark. $2000 should get something relatively nice. My first electric was 600 AUD and it was pretty garbage.

Here's my kit

I hate my neighbours and they hate me
>>
>>69957342
yeah but you can only do rolls and practice stick technique on a pad. you cant play a beat.
>>
>>69957353
thats a beautiful kit man.

Damon Che or that dude from Toe

https://www.roland.com/uk/products/td-25kv/
hows this? would take me a few more weeks to save up but would it be better than the td11k?
>>
>>69957479
Thats a pretty good kit, its got mesh heads and a real hi hat stand. would like to hear the video of it playing but my internet is being gay. but if you have the money to spend on an electric kit go for it. $2000 will get you a top of the line acoustic shell kit, but if you are living in bad drumming conditions i guess thats an alright kit for the money
>>
>>69957477

Nice practice room, looks comfortable

>>69957479

Not that guy, but if you ask me what you really want in a electronic kit is mesh heads and a realistic hi-hat on a proper stand. The solid plastic heads are pure ass, and the cheap roland hi-hats are just a curse since the "foot pedal" always breaks due to a flawed design.
>>
>>69957602
Yeah my family hates TV so my lounge is my jam room haha. never mind the dirty bong in the background of the pic haha, just realised it was there.
>>
>Who's your favorite drummer?
Abe Cunningham. I dig his groove and hip-hop influenced juxtaposed with the metal sound of Deftones. Songs like Digital Bath, Knife Prty, Cherry Waves, and Passenger are some of my favorite drum tracks ever.
>How long have you been playing?
8 years
>What set do you have?
Tama Rockstar with Sabian B8 Pro cymbals
>Essential books IYO?
Stick Control and Accents and Rebounds (obvious)
Ted Reed's Syncopation and Bass Drum books
Rudimental Patterns by Joe Cusatis
