The point of these threads is to encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to and ideally discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new memes daily, these people are in it to venture "out of their comfort zone" by listening to memes they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time.

Murmuüre - S/T
Nearly finished this.
Currently listening to the Ives thing with my mum but especially the Symphony No. 4 feels overorchestrated if that means sth, while other versions I've heard didn't.
Ed Motta was bloody funky and I loved it.
Brad Mehldau Trio is exactly what you hope for in a piano trio, the synergy is amazing.
Ukandanz - Owa is too rock-y for me, it isn't really jazz, more rock with some jazz instrumentation I guess.
Let Me Tell You had vocals that didn't fit the instrumentation and I found the instrumentation too sparse in some parts.
Capucon was bloody great, never heard of any of the composers, but they were great modern pieces.
Brahms violin sonatas may need a relisten, they didn't touch me in any way, but they were rather beautiful. Maybe I wasn't feeling it?
Vince Staples' voice can get too monotone even within an EP.
Tomorrow Outside Tomorrow was amazing drone, I don't know why most people didn't really like it, even prefer it over Plays Well.
The new ROME album is like they parodied themselves, really clichéd version of their great stuff.
Jenny Hval was amazing, I love the sparse instrumentation on here and her beautiful voice layering other forms of vocals.
Sorry Janglo, good album tho.
>>69950352
And this will be my next chart. I've expanded the idea to include 10 'other' albums, because I could see myself getting tired of jazz and classical at this rate.

Santa Cruz prolly, the love stuff is a different atmosphere
Sufjan Stevens - Michigan (2003)
>chamber pop, singer/songwriter, indie folk
The fully-orchestrated chamber pop pieces are among Stevens' greatest achievements as a songwriter. There's a really interesting minimalism-esque vibe that permeates a lot of these tracks, a lot of phrases are repeated ad nauseum, and I'm sure this is just because the heavy vibraphone usage reminds me of Music for 18 Musicians, but there's a really hypnotic quality to a lot of these fully orchestrated tracks, and the actual minimalism pieces ("Tahquamenon Falls", "Alanson, Crooked River") are beautiful as well. The more subdued folk tracks aren't really interesting at all. They lack the beautiful orchestration of the album's other tracks and the emotional potency of the subdued tracks on Illinois and the entirety of Carrie & Lowell. It's a nice album that puts Stevens' songwriting talents on full display, but it's uneven and overlong, bogged down by some inconsuquential indie folk tracks that can't stand up to the beautiful chamber pop.
2.5+
Machine Girl - Gemini (2015)
>hardcore breaks
WLFGRL beats it in the sheer energy department, but this is a far more interesting and complete album. A heavier emphasis is put on soundscaping and ambience, which they do pretty well, and the basic sound the album has is really shimmering and plastic, but in a really cool way. However, nothing can shake the fact that the album is at its best when it goes insane with the percussion and breaks. The ambience is alright, but too stagnant and one-note, and it totally lacks the energy and firebrand production that makes Machine Girl stand out. The breaks are fucking great, though, and I really wish they took up a greater part of the album. This could most certainly be better, but they're steadily improving with each release and I can't wait to see where they go next.

Has /daily/ filled out any autism charts like pic related? I want to see your taste outside music.
PWR BTTM - Ugly Cherries (2015)
>power pop, queercore
This band's Tiny Desk performance is astounding, and they're normally really great-sounding live, but their energy is lost in a studio recording. I think a lot of this has to do with a loss of Hopkins' and Bruce's banter and personalities, and the fact that both of them have a lot less passion in their vocals on this album than in any live performance I've heard of theirs. The songs themselves are still nice, the title track and the heavy, introspective "House in Virginia", especially. Hopkins' guitar perfomance is also really great, he doesn't do anything out of the ordinary, but he puts in a solid, catchy as hell, technically impressive yet non-wanky perfomance. The album is really neutered and tame compared to their live performances, but it's enjoyable nonetheless.

De La Soul - and the Anonymous Nobody (2016)
>east coast hip hop, conscious hip hop
A hot mess of an album. When they stick to straight hip hop it's a welcome return to the days of 3 Feet High and Rising (a wonderful album), but their experiments with other genres are clunky at best and straight-up bad at their worst. The rock tracks are just /so/ generic, maudlin pop rock at it's absolute worst, and the neo-soul tracks lack all of the humor and good vibes you'd expect from a De La Soul release. David Byrne does make a good appearance, but all of the other features are wasted. The straight-up hip hop is very good, that's no lie, but it's dragged down by way too much extra filler shit.
2.0+
and de la get upstaged by tribe one last time
A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders (1993)
>east coast hip hop, jazz rap, boom bap
A much more consistent album than The Low End Theory, with less obvious highlights. The group as a whole improves here, Tip is even more cerebral, the beats hit harder, and Phife steps up his game tenfold, he's about on par with Tip here. These all make more a really enjoyable, cohesive listen. However, the only real standouts are "Award Tour" and "Electric Relaxation". All of the other tracks blend together somewhat, there's no real sonic variation, unlike The Low End Theory's tendency to balance the hard and the more chill. I'm just nitpicking, though, this is a fucking great album.

Flying Saucer Attack - S/T
listening to the einsturzende neubauten album with the horse cock on it
pretty good so far
Okay guys, finally got through my tourney. Guess I'll drone the winner and do a mini drone for the runner up? Not sure. Thoughts?
>DJ Kid Slizzard - For the Weed Smokers
This has a pretty singular focus - it’s a huge mix of raps about weed. Considering the very limited and generic concept, it’s quite enjoyable. There’s also a surprising number of big names on here - Devin the Dude/Odd Squad, DJ Paul, DJ Spanish Fly, Gangsta Pat, Mac Dre and Master P. Despite the length (70mins) and limited scope, this rarely gets old. I’m a huge sucker for everything on here so that was probably a big factor. Side A is ridiculously consistent, with some phenomenal tracks and a very similar atmosphere all throughout. Side B, however, starts with a bang (“Bammer Weed” is way better than it should be) and patters out with like 4-5 generic west coast tracks that don’t do much for me. It finishes relatively strong but is still the weaker half of the mix.
I don’t smoke so much anymore and this is rather lengthy... so I likely won’t return to this album too often. However, this was quite enjoyable considering the obvious limitations. Plus I discovered some cool tracks for the future.
7.5/10

>Love, Claire - Love, Claire
Basically the opposite of Nat’s rec in almost every way imaginable. Mellow, sad and short (~30 mins). I’ve grown to really enjoy this style of music quite a bit - with albums like Stratosphere and On Fire becoming some of my favorites. This was enjoyable, consistent and very similar to the above albums. There’s minimal instrumentation, a very gloomy, lo-fi atmosphere and dark, almost whispery singing. The drumming is hypnotic and the guitar is just crushingly beautiful at points. It’s essentially everything you’d want out of a slowcore/indie rock record like this.
However, this doesn’t stand out in any way compared to other albums from the genre. It feels very… samey for some reason. The atmosphere is great, the instrumentation is solid and everything about it is consistently good. But there’s no one particular song or aspect that makes this feel original. An enjoyable listen nonetheless.
6.0/10
Nat wins!

hard to say, almost all of them are wildly inconsistent, even if they follow a roughly similar structure. it's that frankenstein composition where it seems like the songs are just parts stitched together. reminds me of BTBAM, or maybe BTBAM remind me of ISMFOF, except with the claim of being serious, and more long-winded. reminds me of a lotta bands i like actually, Cardiacs, or Heccra described his music like that
i love literally all of them melodeath chorses though. so the first song that drew me in was the single, then i just warmed up to each other one seperately. 'cept those crunkcore tracks, idrk

Just got Shure SE315-Ks as a late xmas present btw, and they're pretty great. The soundstage is honestly p weak, but I'm not sure what I expected from IEs. The sound quality and fit are amazing though, even if they do sound a bit mid-intensive, and the sound isolation is also pretty crazy.
I have the option of returning them, so I might do that if I can find better similarly-priced IEs. If anyone has any recs, hmu
In the meantime.
