A friend of mine and his girlfriend basically got together by hanging around at Doom, Sludge, Grind, Stoner etc. concerts. Me and my girlfriend sometimes go together to Noise nights or Grind fests; she doesn't really care about the genres, but as far as I can tell she enjoys listening to them whenever they come up. I used to blast Gnaw Their Tongues in our room for days and she never told me to lay it off. There's always a chance mate, but maybe my local scene is a bit more balanced in the male to female ratio.

For what's worth, don't give up and don't lose hope - if you start /r9k/ing things won't get any better. Hang out at some concerts you like in your area, talk with people, buy people some beer, become a known face, one of the regulars. You'll start meeting up more people, going from social circle to social circle; you'll get acquainted with girls more or less by force, and if you're even remotely capable of stammering two sentences together chhances are you'll manage to attract one of them.

(This has worked for me but again, scenes differ, especially from nation to nation; I don't really know how people in the US see concerts/organize venues, etc.)

i get bummed out because i DO listen to weird and obscure music by most people's standards

there's no real sense of community here because everyone's too busy shitposting and competing to call each other entry level plebs. but almost everyone i know irl has the most basic of basic tastes, if it wasn't in the uk charts in the past 10-15 years chances are i have never even spoken about it to most of my friends. my nerdier friends are stuck on stuff like korn, blink-182, green day and disturbed which frankly is even worse

it would just be nice to share my main interest with someone :(
