Not sure if asking seriously or troll baiting, but no, they don't usually take his word very seriously. It's more the novelty of the idea of someone like Scaruffi that people like rather than his opinions. Old cynical Italian guy who created one of the first public websites with a huge archive of his opinions on stuff, with the writings on his opinions being ridiculous in of themselves. Then yeah I guess you also got people who aren't familiar with the more hipster side of RYM or European music critics in general who'll use his site to find music new to them.

>Why can’t I marry a 12-year-old? The fact that so many Americans still believe it should be illegal to marry a 12-year-old only tells you how far America still is from becoming a serious culture. The Europeans have long recognized that the greatest relationships of all times are between male adults and female adolescents, who are the most biologically fit to produce offspring, as well as the most physically attractive. Followers of the Muslim faith rank the highly controversial Aisha over all of their prophet Mohammed’s other wives, who were far past the prime age for reproduction. Americans are still blinded by puritan values. Adult females are more mentally developed than adolescents (not true, by the way), therefore they must be the greatest partners. Europeans engaged in relationships with adolescent European girls in the middle ages, radical Islamists engage in relationships with adolescent Muslim girls in the present. Americans are often totally ignorant of the virtues of relationships with adolescent girls, they barely know the biological benefits. No wonder they will think that sexual relations with 12-year-old girls should be criminalized.

His analysis on music is really shitty, he just compares everything he reviews to a few other bands. But Scaruffi likes pretty interesting and unique music. I feel like most use him to expand their tastes into more experimental and avant-garde music

his project to "objectively" review everything is so inherently ridiculous and yet he pursues so autistically and sincerely that it, ironically, gives him a great personal character that other critics are sorely lacking

he is one of those few people where most of his opinions are dumb and shit, but i want to hear them anyway because they at least they are actual beliefs and not evasive post-modern trash

when someone evades or rejects structured reasoning by engaging in some kind of self-concious "play," like robert cristgau or this hysterically shitty pitchfork review:

i don't think i've ever seen scaruffi make a pop culture joke or talk about his breakfast

Doesn't change that he is right.

Tbh I could spend all day reading Christgau tear people to shreds

>It's difficult to decide where to even begin trimming The Fragile. It's so stunningly monotonous. Any bit of it could be lost without notice. I mean, when the instrumental interludes carry an album, it's a blaring neon sign flashing "stay away!" I pity the kids of the style- over- substance generation-- and yes, it will only be kids-- who enjoy this album. Kids, high school isn't as bad as it seems. You'll grow out of this phase. Save yourself, or your parents, the 25 bucks. The Fragile's length begins to make sense in this context. 104 minutes is the perfect duration for those post- dinner, pre- "X-Files" periods of "nobody understands me" bedroom isolation sit-ins.

I love how he's projecting his own repressed adolescent feelings into caricatures of misunderstood youth. What i'm not sure though is whether this review serves the faction of masochistic journal written as a reminder of his own highschool life or it's just him telling himself how mature and responsible he's now compared to the "rebellious" teens who he proudly advises(while simutenously looking down on them)
