>>69873941
What in the blue hell did he mean by this?
>>69873994
britney spears in particular often sounds like a chipmunk and carly rae is pretty well received on pitchfork and I think there should be a period after chipmunks.
>>69874016
You have to be 18 to post here, anon.
>>69873997
Good pick.

>You have to be 18 to post here, anon.
What in the blue hell did he mean by this?
>>69874027
Exactly what I said. Don't post moronic shit on this board and expect people to think you're not a teenager.
>>69874037
why don't you like grouper
it's not relevant at all but i was in the archive and i saw you talking smack
so what gives
>>69873994
That you should kill yourself.
>>69874037
What did I post that was moronic? I'm a big fan of the new Britney and as I recall the first person to defend it here but still she often sounds like a literal chipmunk.
>>69872357
Side B was better t b h
>>69874050
Cool. :^)
>>69874048
It's literally just a girl singing and playing bland guitar chords, but everything is soaked in reverb. That's it. It's not "bad", but come on.
>>69874058
You know that pop music existed before Pitchfork, right? Have you ever listened to a Kate Bush album or...?
>>69874260
you sound like you dont know how to play guitar, sing, or make electronic music
>>69874291
>Grouper
>electronic music
hahahahaha
>>69874330
being nitpicky are we? if she's making ambient music with digital equipment then the skills required coincide with many of those used in purely electronic ambient music
>>69874364
>the skills required
What skills? She finds a lo-fi sound for each track and stagnates it without progressing the sound in any way. Literally anyone can play lo-fi. She has a pleasant voice, but she's not a talented guitar player and she doesn't know how to work electronic tech.
Also, if you're going to pair her together with artists like Tim Hecker and Autechre in a measure of skillsets, at least know what the fuck you're talking about before you post.
I'm gutted that Frazier Chorus has been largely forgotten. They took many of the conventional features of pop and switched them out for clarinets and hushed tones yet still managed to make a solid pop album out of it.

>Dat xylophone solo
>>69874213
Side B wasn't an album though.
>>69874436
I know but honestly it's close enough if you ask me. It's 8 songs and 28 minutes. Long for an EP but short for an album.
>>69874406
Autechre mostly don't make ambient music lol and I never compared her to Tim Hecker specifically, as if every ambient artist is Tim Hecker.
>What skills?
lo-fi dronescapes as a deliberate backdrop for shuddering acoustic guitar and layered ethreal wave vocals
>>69874486
>Autechre mostly don't make ambient music lol
Their first three records are straight ambient techno.
>and I never compared her to Tim Hecker specifically
So, you're retracting your statement? Don't make comparisons from one artist to everyone in a (unrelated) whole genre if you're not confident in what you're saying.
>lo-fi dronescapes as a deliberate backdrop for shuddering acoustic guitar
The Microphones - Mount Eerie is a well-executed example of this. Grouper is nothing. Absolutely nothing. There are a million Groupers on bandcamp.
>>69872357
>GOAT
>pop
Lovin this thing right now.
>>69874614
>So, you're retracting your statement
w-what, where are you getting this
>Grouper is nothing. Absolutely nothing. There are a million Groupers on bandcamp.
if there were, I would know about them, and I would be listening to them
grouper captures a defeated melancholic depression, the kind that leads you to starve alone in the dark because of how little anything means, and very few records evoke something so specific
>Their first three records are straight ambient techno
Yeah, and its a sound that they have departed from.
>>69874678
Careful, you'll trigger the pitchfork shills
Funny how this had EMOTION levels of hype in '10 but everyone's forgot about it
C'mon guys
>>69873893
>>69873979
>>69874750
yup this is the one i was waiting for, well done anon
>>69874711
>if there were, I would know about them, and I would be listening to them
>goes on bandcamp and stumbles upon Grouper on the front page
>she's tagged her new EP as 'experimental'
>"pfft"s audibly
>searches under 'atmospheric' and 'acoustic' tags
>everything sounds like Grouper
Have fun, m8.
>>69874614
Tri Repetae is not ambient techno. Fuck off.
This imo
>>69873997
This album sounds like a bad Queen album but with even worse production
>>69872963
whoa this is some good shit
>>69873897
>posting post pop in a thread about pop
>>69873897
that's a hell of a fucking lineup
i should listen to this
>>69876335
It's literally her worst album, only Tumblr thinks it's good.
TFJ and Froot are much better
>>69877249
eh... froot is worse desu
(tfj is gold tho)
Get to Heaven.
>>69877249
>>69877300
Electra Heart with the bonus tracks > TFJ > Electra Heart without the bonus tracks > Froot
>>69877249
I wouldn't say it's the best either but I can't decide which one I actually like the best
