There's this great band called The Swans. Have you heard of them OP? Probably not haha, they're super indie XD

My favourite album is the one with the crying baby on it. I forget what it's called, I'm no good with named lmao! It's on Spotify. Don't worry, I'll share my playlist with you.

Some methods of musical research:

1- http://rateyourmusic.com/misc/random
1.1-Gives you an random album

2-https://rateyourmusic.com/recs/auto/exdeath
2.1- Recommend stuff based on what you rated

3-https://rateyourmusic.com/find_similar_users?user=YOURUSENAME
3.1-Show similar users, to go top similar user and try his stuff rated with 5 and 4.5, go to the second most similar user if needed.

4-http://www.metal-archives.com/
4.1- Only works if you like metal.
4.2- Many profiles have recommendations (user write the name of an band that they think its similar to the one of the profile and the band get +1 recommendation point), go to bands that you like and try their recommendations

5-http://www.metal-archives.com/
5.1- Only works if you like metal.
5.2- Get the genre field of your band profile and search for bands with the EXACT same genre field.

Death Grip
>>
6-https://www.tastekid.com/
6.1-People add names to site, and tell if the name, is a music, tv show, movie, book, author or game. People thumb up or down those names saying they like them, hate them or don't care.
6.1.1- Site can recommend, music, tv show and/or movie and/or book and/or author and/or game, based on the tv show and/or book and/or author and/or game and/or movie and/or music you like. YES, it can recommend you music based on the books you like (or not) to read.
6.2- You don't need an account but with it you don't need to write all band names, movie names.... Also having an account allow you to tell what you hate or don't care......

7- http://www.Discogs.com
7.1-Its like RYM, but its more anal about adding stuff, it doesn't have a chart, their auto recommendation is based on what people have at their collection instead of ratings (the reason you see radiohead, aphex twin and boards of canada being a recommendation to almost everything).
7.2-There is marketplace where you can sell stuff, when adding something to marketplace you can add an sample of what you added if you want. Go to this link and you will find all albums with samples at markeplace, you can filter it by genre, decade..... and quickly try alot of stuff easily. https://www.discogs.com/sell/list?audio=1

JOKE METHOD.

8-Rateyourmusic.com
8.1-Find an album you would rate 5 or 4.5 stars, now go to the profile of the album and then visit the profile of some user that rated it with 0.5 or 1.0, then go the albums he rated with 0.5 or 1.0 and try them

I usually go to rym and download the top 100 bands of a genre I want to get into and skim through the songs
>>
RYM's random album feature is really, and you can find a lot of cool shit that you would have never found otherwise.

Using it as a method of musical research has positive points.

With usual method of musical research, you are limited by time, you need time to find stuff. With that method you sort of already know all albums at rym (or discogs if you do with discogs).

With usual method you limited by situations, as some example you wont discover an album made by /mu/tants at those albums where we pick names by using doubles, unless you visit this site. With that method, you have a chance of finding those albums, if they are there.

With usual method of music research, you are limited by prejudice, if you think emo is what tv tell you will never search about it and never try an album some site call emo, but would really like that album, with that method of research you will try that emo album.

Needing time to searching for bands not only means you will never know all bands, but also means you will have to spend time searching for bands, this method dont require that. You only waste your time trying to find the album.
