So I've got a BOSS chromatic tuner pedal and I can't seem to get a proper tune with.

Whenever I first pick a string, the pedal reads high, and then as the note dissipates, it reads lower and lower. This is especially prevalent on the low E string.

Is this normal? If so, should I tune to what it reads when I first pick the string or to what it reads when the note evens out?

Even so, it seems that the tuner just fluctuates randomly, making it impossible to tune.

12 strings :^)
Also while not necessarily useful, 7 strings are almost as easy to play.
Anything beyond 8 strings/courses is absolutely useless.
>>
>>69847626
I've had both those speakers, they're pretty similar actually but the governor has a less harsh high-end and is a little less bassy.

I changed my speakers to Fryette P50E after hearing David Torn use them and I think they're way better than both, bassier, more articulate, less fizzy. Something you could consider too
>>
>>69847652
It does this with me too. I usually play the harmonic on the 12th fret and that gives a better reading. Playing open notes tends to confuse the pedal for some reason.
>>

i'm listening to it now and that tab doesn't seem right, he's just moving the bass note around and everything else stays the same, so that drop to an open Db doesn't seem right

I am fucking sick of Orange amps. Every single one I've had has died within six months... My dark terror is the most recent one to die on me.

While the bastard is in the repair shop I went out and bought a micro dark terror... Turns out the micro dark has the hairy classic rock tone that I'm after. I'm thinking that once my DT gets back I will immediately sell it and find myself a second hand EVH LBX (for more modern metal) or a Bassbreaker (more all rounder).

Thoughts? Have any of you anon's had such shit luck with a certain brand?

Multi-fx is a pedalboard tho. I use guitar> wah>gt-6>ge-7>amp. Gt-6 has 4 patches/bank, and you can toggle on/off 2 effects in a patch. Make a patch, copy it each patch of a bank, turn of a combination of effects each patch. You get like 32 different combinations pushing 3 or less footswitches. can assign the exp pedal to different things, too. Pitch shift, volume, gain, etc. Has shit you'd never buy in a regular pedal. Ring modulator, defretter, all sorts of garbage and shit. I don't know why more people dont use them.

You'll learn to like it.
What do you dislike about it anyway?

Buy a cheap one and put pickups that sound good to you.
Since you dislike Strat, go straight for humbuckers: mini-humbuckers.

More seriously, what do you like to play, what tone are you looking for exactly?
>>
>>69849853
Well kinda, the electrics are shitty in epiphones, the electrics in my es 335 got fucked after about 2 years but because i'm an awesome as fuck handyman (not really) I could fix it up. I just fixed it with some electrical tape and some pliers.

oh yea and the input jack gets a bit fucky after a while.

>>
>>69855465
So are you, 3 years later, still doing the same thing
>>
>>69855355
Well yeah, it's funny because the first guitar I want to recommend you is still a Strat.
Maybe a tele if you find one that you like, or some Ibanez maybe...

Personal story just for fun:
I received my Strat as a kid, a cheap MIM.
I like it just because it was beautiful and comfy.
I had no real amp, I was basically just fooling around.

(My main guitar was a classic nylon guitar, I was in Music School)

As I grew up I felt like playing the electric more seriously. And in the end, when I bought my first real amp I was a bit... Disappointed by my tone.

And I realised that this Strat, as is, was not what I was looking for...
Or so I thought!

I changed the pickups, learnt to use my tube amp properly and I ended up fairly pleased.
And then it's all about finding the tone you like, which amp, which pedals, which pickups.

But yeah, if you don't really know what you're looking for
Try everything in a music shop.
If you find a tone you like, but don't like the guitar, try to understand WHAT is it that you like with this tone.
And try to find what you dislike about your Strat

I had the same "no character" problem when I started writing.

Thing is - writing is a skill. practice and youll get good at it. So is guitar playing. My stuff sounded hollow, because I was too robotic and tense about playing it. Once you get better you'll get rid of that robotic feeling.

And start writing as soon as you can pluck a string. It will go a long way. I took up writing later in my guitar studies and hate myself for it. Always thought I needed better technique to write what I truly want - the truth was I couldn't write anything.

You need a lot of practice in writing, technique and ear training and then it will stop sounding hollow.

Write a few riffs that sound good together, record them, add a drum track and enjoy. You might even start improvising over them. The possibilities in music are endless. Enjoy what you do!
>>
>>69854361
Put signs up
>>
>>69855500
No, I haven't. What part of "I want to stroll down memory lane" didn't you understand? You showed up around January of 2014 and never left though. How do you explain and/or justify that?
>>
>>69855528
I have the same problem with the other anon with bland playing. How to break out of patterns? Every time I try to play lead on a backing track I can't make the major, minor or pentatonic scales sound anything other than an exercise.

I tried just playing only two or three notes around a chord change but fall flat with no melody.
>>
>>69855574
I've actually went to study to a teacher for that. Fixed me up in a month or two.

In a nutshell, don't play "whatever" as it comes and goes over the chords - write a theme. Think up a three note phrase and play it for 4 bars straight. Then for the next 4 bars play it in a varied way - add a bend, a slide, some legato - whatever you wish. Then the next 4 - 8 bars modify the theme - add an extra note, punch it up an octave, hey, play a different theme or your favourite lick. After that - return to your first theme.

It's all about telling a story/coherency.

Also how do you go about practicing your scales? There are times in a solo when you just need to climb from, for example, your low E, to the B string. If you just play the scale up it might sometimes work, but it's more interesting if you break it up into a climbing pattern.

Therefore, practice playing scales in different patterns, slowly but surely, ofcourse.

The A minor scale is A, B, C, D, E, F, G, A.
While warming up or practicing the scale play three notes up from every note, for example.

A, B, C, B, C, D, C, D, E and so on and so forth. It's already a lot more musical, and when it sticks into your muscle memory - you'll be able to use it to connect different themes or licks.

Also try playing in different intervals. For example in thirds

A, C, B, E, C, F and so on.

Was that helpfulp? If I had more time I could record you a shitty example of theme building. Just remember - even if you're bored of it, keep playing the theme. Don't wander. And maybe try getting a teacher.
>>

Thanks for the info mang. I have practiced say the A Major scale three notes per string, try to connect to another pattern moving up an octave, linking the relative minor F#m, and then pentatonic.

Playing like you said with slight variations but honestly I think a teacher will help big time to help me out to maybe break up my mindset. Thanks for the info again man I appreciate it.

Three barre chords for chorus, another three verse. Add drumtrack; done
>>
>>69856034
Ok I really want one

>>69856322
That's some cringe shit
>>
>>69856203
Se, cheap ass electronics, and ridiculous fat necks.

In other words the same basic ass shitplank construction that makes vintage Fenders from the 50s sound good.

Aside from the standard series (stock pickups suck), how do MIM strats compare to MIA? Are they really much difference in terms of build quality? They often have the same pickups and things
>>

>American Fenders: made in America by unskilled illegal Mexican immigrants
>Mexican Fenders: made in Mexico by unskilled Mexicans
Only dumb kids buy modern Fenders, Anon. They're a rip off.
>>
>>69856412
I was planning on buying second hand
>>
>>69856440
And you'll be getting ripped off unless you're buying a MIM for $200 or a MIA for $500. Modern Fenders are shit guitars.
>>
>>69856467
>australia
>$200 MIM

Do you not understand how timezones work?
>>
>>69856633

>>
>>69856633
>>69856649

>one anon honestly believes there are no americans posting on 4chan right now
>another anon has no idea how much I can or want to spend but thinks you can magically buy guitars for cheaper

>>
>>69856633
>Do you not understand how timezones work?
top kek he's Australian you know he doesn't
>>
>>69856732
Wow. You assumed you were talking to an American and then when I flat out told you that I wasn't you're still insisting I'm an American? Who's dumb again?
>>
>>69856788
>you're still insisting I'm an American?

>the city of this anon's comprehension

no, I said it because you think I shouldn't have thought you're american because of "timezones". that's one of the stupidest fucking things I've ever read.

I fucking hate this mandrama shit. fuck off you fag.
>>
>>69855915
Glad I could be of help. Merry christmas, anon! And remember to keep practicing!
>>
>>69856810
It would be 3:30-6:30am in America right now, you brain-dead Aussie shit. Why would you assume anybody posting here would be American? So I'm gonna repeat my question: do you not understand how timezones work?
>>
>>69856874
>nobody posts on 4chan at 3:30am-6:30am
>he actually believes this

beyond stupid
>>
>>69856888
No, what's beyond stupid is you assuming a poster would be an American during this time period. Which you did. Because you're a fucking retard who obviously doesn't understand how timezones work.
>>
>>69856915
go on pol or sp and see how many americans there are posting right now

it's actually laughable how dumb are you

>hurrr you dont know timezones gosh im not american u r so dumb!1!1!!!!

well done, you've reached the intellectual capability of a 3 year old
>>
>>69856949
I already told you I wasn't an American, you dumbass kangaroo fuckin' tard. The fact that you'd assume that anybody posting here during this period would be American was beyond stupid. Now you're slobbering all over yourself trying to say it wasn't? Sorry, it was. Just deal with it and stop embarrassing yourself.
>>
>>69857016
you're so dumb you can't even understand what I'm saying.

come back when you are actually able to form a coherent argument and have taken some comprehension classes
>>
>>69857045
Let's walk through this, shall we?
>dumbshit Aussie wants to buy a Fender
>can't tell time and doesn't understand timezones because he's dumb as shit
>assumes he's talking to an American because he can't tell time and doesn't understand timezones because he's dumb as shit
>gets mad and starts shitting all over himself when it's pointed out that the anon he's talking to isn't an American and that it was stupid for him to assume he was talking to an American
That about sum it up, you retarded koala fucker?
>>
kek, is this another Roman escapade?

New thread when?
>>
>>69857081
>autist gets mad because someone else asks whether MIM or MIA strats are better
>someone else assumes he is american
>gets incredibly assblasted because of this
>goes on an autistic rage trying to explain that he can't be a certain poster because of timezones
>literally gets proved wrong with evidence (pol & sp)
>becomes even more spastic and makes his original argument again

sounds about right

/gg/

I THINK I'M GETTING A NEW GUITAR FOR CHRISTMAS
>>
>>69856381
I don't know about modern MIM and MIA (except people always complain)

But I got a MIM as a kid for dirt cheap money and then improve it by myself.
(Schaller locking tuners, tusq XL, good pickups,
setting action properly...)
When I let a friend who swears by expensive guitar try mine, he was surprise something as cheap could be this good.
