Who was the superior songwriter(s) from a compositional standpoint? Brian Wilson can (IMO) stand up to a Lennon or Mccartney alone easily, but when they're together, i don't know. Brian wrote some amazing songs, but can he beat Paperback Writer/Rain or Penny Lane/SFF?

Lennon-McCartney ez

Lennon-Macca didn't write CabinEssence.
To me:
Lennon > Mccartney > Wilson
However..
Beach Boys > Beatles

McCartney > Wilson >>> Lennon

how does that make sense

Plastic Ono band is one of my favorite records ever, and John's songs usually were both poignantly beautiful and had an impact on the World at large.
However Beatles Albums for me are pretty hit or miss. Mccartney definetely had his fair share of immaculate tunes though
The Beach Boys records and overall sound to me sounded more refined and defined, which has nothing necessarily to do with the songwriting of Brian, as much as it was the group being honed in and on the same page creatively.

kek
McCartney because Lennon is dead and Wilson will die on Christmas day if dubs.
Wilson>McCartney=Lennon
How is this debatable?

As a whole The Beatles are the greater band but in terms of songwriting Brian was on a completely different level than Lennon-McCartney. Harmonically his songs were far more complex than theirs and he didn't have to rely on his producer/bandmates to compose arrangements for him.
