it's good, really poorly produced though

I loved it as a teenager, then I listened to more post-hardcore. still appreciate it for what it is, although I see bands like them, refused and glassjaw as being indirectly responsible for a really bad turning point in the genre

Brainiac was one of the best of that era, I saw them a week before he died.
>>
>>69825820
I didn't imply that at all, read it again.

>Please explain?
Refused and AtD-I inspired a lot of copycat bands. They (especially AtD-I) also got the genre much more mainstream coverage, which led to a lot of bands cashing in on that particular sound rather than bringing anything new to the table. These bands also generally lacked the nuance, eclectic set of influences, and political motive for making music.

I don't really get that hung up on copycatting and mainstreaming, I figure it means that people who could get into better music find it more easily because more stuff is out there, hell, I got into music thanks to BMTH

music is good, but god damn this video is retarded.
>>
>>69825966
Well, I usually don't care what other people listen to. But when it leads to a decade-long stagnation in what was one of the best things happening in rock music in the 90s, I think that's kinda important
>>
>>69826121
I can't say I've listened to enough to disagree with your statement, but I cannot say I agree with it either, personally, if you think theres somewhere the genre could be taken its your job to take it there, what do you think post-hardcore is missing?
>>
>>69825634
best punk album ever, IMO, if you.dknt give a squat about politics

>>69825732
Wait, how is RoC not their rawest release? This was the record that had the most noiserock influence. Aside from Devil Among the Tailors, In/Casino/Out was pretty soft and Vaya was an electronic album by comparison. You need to give it another listen
>>
>>69826166
It's missing the "post-" part of post-hardcore. What made Fugazi, Unwound, At the Drive-In etc. good is that they were influenced by things outside of hardcore punk. That's the whole point. Post-hardcore should be a vague term, because there are lots of things out there that aren't hardcore punk. But it very much has a specific sound now, which happens to copy those in the late 90s and early 00s.. They're not just punks making whatever music they happen to be influenced by, they're bands trying to sound like AtD-I

Saw DLJ in DC this year. Incredible.

Funny seeing Ian Svenonius run back and forth between watching and backstage.

Made a lot of eye contact with John Reis.

For the the production is one of the highest points on the album
>>
>>69826466
this is the course pretty much every style of music goes through though, and there's nothing wrong with repeating a formula if it's a good one

It was mastered pretty badly. Clipped like crazy from what I can recall. Even Omar hated how it was produced.

I wish more post-hardcore out there took cues from this and Fugazi, than from bands like Drive Like Jehu and At the Drive-In.
>>
>>69830045
Didn't notice anything wrong with the mastering. Can't remember any clippings either.

Also Omar is not exactly a reference in this point, since the late TMV album are terribly produced.
>>
>>69825785
>poorly produced

Nah, Ross Robinson did a good job on that album. Better than any of the nu-metal garbage he was doing at the same time, lmao.

>eclectic set of influences
>political motive

How the fuck do either of these factor into your enjoyment of a band?

If I'm listening to Refused, I couldn't give a fuck if they're a bunch of dirty communists, I'll blast New Noise and rock the fuck out to it. Conversely, if I'm listening to something like Pierce The Veil I couldn't care one iota if they aren't "politically motivated" in the slightest, as long as the music is decent I'm fucking good to go.

Korn's S/T is p good, Roots by Sepultura is nice, same with the first 2 Slipknot albums. But in all honesty I'd say his work with bands like Glassjaw, The Blood Brothers and ATDI is way better.

Asking Alexandria's first album is more or less a ripoff of Attack Attack! when you think about it. The difference is Attack Attack! got much heavier before breaking up, while Asking Alexandria more or less turned into a radio rock band.
