When I listen to the segment they do on the Giantbomb GOTY podcasts, I find some of the music sounds interesting and want to check it out but then when I hear the albums and realize it's just the same thing with no variance, I realize it's garbage without the accompanying media just like most film soundtracks.

What are you talking about? Mother 2 came out in 1994. Hip hop had been sampling and Cromagnon sampled as early as 1969 and I'm sure there were avant ggardeists doing it before. I love earthbound but this is undue.

oh actually there is one exception: quake. that game has cool ass sounds which do actually add to the old skool arena shooter experience.

Listening to video game music with your pals is pretty boring IMO. Its not bad music per say.

Aquatic Ambience is probably better than anything Eno or Aphex Twin ever did in the genre
