looking for advice on the Fender Pro Jr

I have a shitty solid state that is whiny, and I'm a intermediate-advanced guitar student living in NYC. Size is unimportant, I'm not doing gigs and have neighbors.

I can get it used 200-250 from a local person selling. Is this a good intro into tube amps? Or should I save up for something better

I have a friend who bought a Marshall cab and uses a Line 6 Spider head through it. Its pretty embarrassing...
