Who is more talented? Morrissey or Johnny Marr?
listen to some girls are bigger than others
The real correct answer
Marr lost his touch after The Smiths but no doubt he was more talented
>>69810263
hard to measure when ones a singer and the others a guitar player.
buuuut i'd say marr as i find his post smiths work more enjoyable.
>>69810263
They were both talented in different ways. Morrissey was a good singer and lyricist. Marr was a good guitarist and songwriter.
>>69810354
>good lyricist
i genuinely believe morrissey might be the best lyricist of all time, (when he's at his best) he can combine dour humour, haunting sadness and magnificent storytelling to really unique effect
>good singer
literally every melody morrissey has ever done revolves around three notes, his live delivery is pretty often askew, and the last minute of miserable lie is a falsetto abomination
>>69810416
>revolves around 3 notes
Listen to the queen is dead, he actually sings more notes on that album
>>69810416
>i genuinely believe morrissey might be the best lyricist of all time
Definitely up there
>literally every melody morrissey has ever done revolves around three notes
Never really noticed this. For someone who has practically zero musical ability he complements Marr's work very well.
Johnny Marr > Morissey
Johnny marr perfected the post punk non-distortion riff and Morrissey was just a good writer not really a musician
marr and it isn't even close. morrissey is a bad vocalist and a slightly above average lyricist. marr is a top 25 all time guitar player
>>69810416
>revolves around three notes
That's what melodies generally are.
Too many notes and it becomes forgettable
>>69811502
>marr is a top 25 all time guitar player
I love marr but I think his playing is good for being unique and fluid rather than technical
>>69811645
not that anon, but i think creativity and uniqueness is just as valid as technical skill.
then again i wouldn't put marr anywhere top 25, maybe somewhere in the mid 70's.
I'm from Manchester and they both fucking suck, as die hard a Mancunian I am, they both are shite.
>>69810310
he wasn't an option
>>69810263
morrissey
>>69811931
Yes, of course you chose Morrissey if you're a twat who neglects Andy
>>69811645
if music were all about being technical, the best guitar players would all be guys who sit in their bedroom and do exercises all day. marr is one of the most melodically original guitarists and also a great songwriter as well as sound-smith. maybe top 25 is a bit high, but hes still much more talented than morrissey
>>69811837
>just as valid as technical skill
agree, and he was hugely influential
just think it's hard to rank him so highly when britain alone has produced many masterful guitarists
