>>

Hey /gg/ how should I be learning guitar right now I'm really stressing because I don't want to fuck this up I started standing and learning how to play with my guitar standing up I'm wondering how to learn how to play by ear and what are some good songs to do that with and learning how to use a metronome to learn how to play consistently. How should I practice with these two things should I be finding songs at a low bpm and working with those and then doing scales and chord progressions?
>>
Anyone use a pedaltrain pedal board? I just told my mate I'd buy his Nano + for £20 (Which is half the price new), did I get a good deal?

>>69784374

yeah I have a pedaltrain 2, it's really nice, they're sturdy and not heavy at all, if you get the bag all the better
>>
>>69784434
Does it come with a bag? Or do you have to buy one separately?
>>
Post a song by a band you've opened for.

>>
>>69784456

It should come with a bag or case, ask your friend if he's got it.
>>
>>69784347
What I do with a metronome is find the tempo that I can play something comfortably at then practice it 20bpm faster, spend about an hour doing that and you will start improving. Remember to aim for cleanliness not just stumbling over the notes.
>>
>>69784347
Here's a good song to learn by ear

I have one of the huge ones, never used it since I only use a few pedals at a time. The nano seems like a good option, you got it for a good price.

>I started standing and learning how to play with my guitar standing up
Set your strap properly and playing standing becomes the same as playing sitting
>I'm wondering how to learn how to play by ear
you get good and train your ear
>and what are some good songs to do that with
any songs with simple harmonies and chords
>and learning how to use a metronome to learn how to play consistently. How should I practice with these two things should I be finding songs at a low bpm and working with those and then doing scales and chord progressions?
there's no subtelities in playing with a metronome. it clicks, you play at the same time
you can train yourself to subdivide the beat afterwards, so for example playing something at 120bpm and setting the metronome at 60bpm
For songs, just find some you're comfortable with.
For scales and chord progression, learn how they're made, create some melodies that encompass those characteristics, and practice them with a metronome just like you'd practice a song

>>69784375

Transilvanian Hunger is tricky, the main melody is easy but there's some doubling up with the root below.

Anything and everything dude. In the beginning just have fun, you don't have to be too serious about it. Learning songs that you like (by ear or tab) will be greatly beneficial. Same with chord progressions, it's helpful to know the theory behind them (scale degrees and so on) but right now you can just practice changing from different chords smoothly. Start with open chords then move on to barre chords.

All of this can be practiced with a metronome.

Also Darkthrone and the early black metal bands at least had an actual excuse for sounding like shit production wise, it's because none of them were competent at mixing, raw black metal and all that underground shite is a joke though.
>>
>>69784858
Yeah, they were chill guys. Turbogeists singer is actually Mick Jaggers son. Found that out literally the morning after the show. Really cool fucking dude, he was. Didn't say shit about him being Micks son. It was pretty funny, the bass player and me were bullshitting outside and he was like "Yeah, we're all Micks sons in this band." And the joke went right over my head until I found out from my drummer.

Just don't be cunts to each other. Show wise, if you got friends in a more established band with the generally same ballpark sound of sound, latch on them for a bit and be their opener bitch. But always strive to steal the show from them. People will notice.

>>69785332
Get some type of demo put together asap. Best way to get a rough demo to just get out there is to record your instruments all together and just layer the vocals over it. The goal is to just get something to hand to people once you start getting shows. Put your facebook/twitter/myspace or whatever you use on all of your merch.

Shit, I had a art friend of mine make shitty collage and put our band name and our facebook link and we got like 100 likes after our second show when we handed out the fliers. Don't buy likes. Also, see above. If you got some friends that can help you get out there, thats great.
>>
>>69785448
Cheers anon, time to get some shitty art friends, also I know about a recording studio near where I live that lets students hire it out as a practice space for a pretty reasonable price, and for a little extra you get the whole session recorded too, I've been trying to get the others organized but its like herding cats get a group of people all in the same place at the same time

question to this and to all

is there any possible scenario in which i would want to connect something BEFORE the wah wah pedal when playing?

i mean, with all of the opssible pedal configurations taht include a wah wah, is there any in which you would want the signal to go trough something before the wah, or is it preferable always or almost always to have the guitar go first straight to the wah before anything else?

i noticed that hendrix used it like this

Auto filters / envelopes are designed to track with a picked guitar string. If you try using a bow, the pedal has no idea what is going on and will trigger the envelope at random to times.

It will work pretty much like guitar if you pluck your strings, but why shove a giant fm4 on your board for that limited purpose

Fuzzes and square waves also have issue with electric string instruments, as they turn into sludge when dragged out with a bow instead of picked.

But beyond that, nearly all guitar effects work how you'd expect violins and cellos. Some of them arguably work better, such as shimmer effects or anything ambient, as you can hold a note forever with your bow whereas a guitar needs sustain gear or volume pedals to do swells.

im interested in playing stoner rock, will this be a problem?

im mainly asking because im about to buy a sapphire audio interface and i dont know if i should buy a wah pedal (which i could also take to rehearsals and other places) or if i should find a way to use the wah wah trough the computer (like using the rig kontrol for guitar rig).

The thing is, if i have an actual pedal i have no choice but to send the signal to the pedal and then to whatever effects i have on the computer.

Or if i get an interface with 2 inputs, is there a way to run the signal to the computer and then back to the pedal THEN BACK TO THE COMPUTER using the same audio interface and without generating latency?

I'm going to give you a quick reason why 10 strings IS too much I don't give a shit about 8 or 9 but 10 IS too much and here is why. In standard tuning you tune to the circle of fifth your 6th string in standard is E that can tune down to a maximum of B. now on a 7 string your 7th string allows your strings to keep their tension and allow you to hit that lower note, but if that isn't low enough you can tune down to a maximum of F# hence the eight strings. Now some people say this is too much because it's now in standard bass registers. I disagree with that because all of music is centered around the note C and not F#. Once you apply a ninth string your lowest note in Standard tuning is C# one note away from C. But C# on the 9 string to my under standing still has 2 registers below is meaning if a bass player plays a 7-9 string bass depending on the way it is tuned the bass player still has a role just in a register lower than before. The bass player now has strings ranging 1 register lower than before and so does the guitar. You both still have the ability to tune lower by a half step if you both wish and both still have a role. The bass player now tunes to C#0 F#0 B0 E1 A1 D2 G2 C3 F3 guitar is tuned to C#2 F#2 B2 E3 A3 D4 G4 B5 E6 leaving both the bass and the guitar room to play with more overlap.

>>

Tl;dr 9 string guitars are the limit be cause it's still 2octaves higher than the lowest note in music. Bass players can tune to C#0 and still take on the same roll.

Well, does your pedal have velocity control? you could get it to work as a sample trigger using some PDextented or MAXMSP between the signal and the DAW. I had a set up where I used 20 contact mics I made to control a drum patch, interact with a friends Max patch over wifi and also trigger patch changes for my buddies arduino/stylophone set up.

Wouldn't be too hard. Set the audio input as a trigger for a midi signal, then send the midi command out as an input to your daw. I haven't done that shit since the end of my degree but I'll look about on my old hard drive for the patches in the morning if you want. I'll post them in a GG when I find them

>bass>guitars for emgs

Yeah I agree with that. I have a bass with the music man EMG and also a guitar with an 81 and 60. The guitar was my big spend as a teenager. Bonus: they are mounted on a black (technically gunmetal blue but it looks black even in person) Ltd. super strat with pointy headstock.

Anyway, on guitar I find EMGs to be thin. No character. Only really good for overdriving tube amps and there are better options even for that. I do like the 60 in neck position for clean tone, but again there are better pickups for that application too.

Bass EMGs are nice if you want a lot of clarity between notes. They don't muddy up when playing two or three note chords as passive pickups tend to. Also really good clear signal to run through a synth pedal and octaver if that's your style.

You have to measure the relief in the neck, if you just fucking crank the thing willy niklly you will destroy your guitar neck. If you have never adjusted the truss rod I guarantee your action is all kinds of fucked.

literall irl forever confirmedly absolutely literally the followings are true:

-valve amps have a distinctive warmer sound which anyone with a functioning ear

-the so called """""""""dad rock"""""""" label refers to music that is the best of the best of human civilization since bach, and this is confirmed by musicologist and common sense if you play and analyse guitar theory and geniusnes of simplicity

also blues and jazz are irl undeniable building blocks of all good, and you either love it, or dont know you love it and constantly steal from it

that is the whole wide truth, either you know it or youre wrong, sorry if youre inferior it aint my fault little kiddy boy

theres no denying that in the context of when it was written. The iron man riff is simple and novel for its time
But compared to today it seems so tame and pedestrian. Easy really. and you can argue thats the beauty of it that is timeless but frankly its a little boring and unimpressive

>But compared to today it seems so tame and pedestrian. Easy really. and you can argue thats the beauty of it that is timeless but frankly its a little boring and unimpressive
the jist is not to repeat what was done note per note, but to inspire in it and create new music that generates EMOTION

which is the real objective of music not le ebin 1219801280921890 notes per minute like if you were a robot and no feeling or emotion

>>69790827
clapton is a piece of shit, the best of 60 and 70 music fucks him over
listen to things like these:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f38l2vD3CUE

and all of those other retro stoner psych rock 70s inspired. they are YOUNG not old recent musicians who use that style and inspire on it, creating objectively not copies that are new and not old so therefore cannot be ANYWHERE EVER acused of living int he past.

60 70s is like bach music for classicians, if you like the rock genre you like 60 70, if not you dont like rock
>>
>>69790779
Hurr its not music its just finger exercises that sound really beautiful and expressive.

nah I meant a full size hollowbody like a 175, the 335 will probably sound too close to your Les Paul and SG, but it could be worth a try anyways.

>which is the real objective of music not le ebin 1219801280921890 notes per minute like if you were a robot and no feeling or emotion

its called contrast. most skilled musicians have a section of fast playing and accentuate it with a slower section of melody which sticks out more when contrasted to the preceeding fast passage. its also used to build tension and the melody relieves it there are so many uses. Also its impressive on its own.

You don't dictate what emotion is. who the fuck are you to try and tell us if its not one note per bar its robotic. maybe your mind is too slow to comprehend fast playing
