Thoughts on this album?
it's good

didn't like it very much. Gave it a 2/5 on rateyourmusic.
Thought it was too indulgent and got kind of annoying in the last half. It's kinda like the worst aspects of no wave in one album
Great, interesting album, but I wish it was better. Less overproduced and tame, more raw. Maybe this is an ironic criticism for a no wave album, but I wish it sounded less like a product of the new wave era.
What I'm trying to get at is, James Chance was doing something really cool with his raw, passionate, yet noisy/avant garde sound, and I don't feel like Buy captures the power of what he did. I wish he'd taken more cues from how DNA were recording, or maybe what the Stooges did on Funhouse

totally get what you're saying, it's like the difference between Mission of Burma's "Signals Calls and Marches" and "Vs"
Buy is kind of like if Burma had only released the one EP.
It's good but there are better no wave albums.

can you recommend me some?

I like it but Off-White is better.
I liked it, I prefer how they sounded on No New York though.

was no wave the vaporwave of the late 70s?!
>artists with no formal training making music ironically
P good, but Lizzy Mercier Descloux is better at the whole funky no wave shtick. Peep Mambo Nassau. It's a killer album.

The Ascension and DNA on DNA (which is not even an album, it's a compilation) are the only good No Wave albums.
>>69761489
Those are good albums, but the way you did this is so autistic it pains me.
> including RYM ratings
> not including DNA on DNA, 78+ by Mars, anything by Lizzy Mercier Descloux
> including indie/art bands that aren't no wave, just influenced by it, like Sonic Youth and Swans
> including Glenn Branca's work after he'd stopped doing no wave and became an avant garde composer
so much why

Forgot about the Suicide s/t and the Liquid Liquid (an EP).

Was about to recommend her. Heere's another vote for her
>>69761502
neither makes music ironically.Stop looking at everything like memes from facebook
reminder that you go against everything the movement represented if you call the no wave movement a genre
Btw, James Chance released an album earlier this year that sounds a lot like his work on this album and Off White. It's pretty solid and flew under the radar. I'd recommend it.

>> not including DNA on DNA, 78+ by Mars, anything by Lizzy Mercier Descloux
DNA on DNA is listed as a compilation on RYM, if it was listed as a traditional album, it would be on the top of the list, only behind The Ascension.
78+ is an EP, that's why it's not on the list.
Lizzy Mercier Descloux albums aren't tagged with the No Wave genre for some reason.
>>69761093
It's like a pop version of Pere Ubu. And when I say pop I don't mean it's bad, I mean that it's catchy.
Its high energy punk at the best form (ignore ebm)

>so much why
Probably went on RYM and looked up the top No Wave charts and copypasted it here. As in, "read the fucking sticky".
>>69761449
circle x is great
their first ep is basically noisy punk style no wave and their album is more like if CAN but no wave
