On a side note I got high and listened to that song in particular and got super, super depressed. It took me to another setting mentally and it made me feel so uncomfortable.

You are missing the fucking point
Music For Airports // Eno

I tried sleeping to this once and it came to that part with the dog whimpering - made me feel so bad I had to turn it off
I like listening to stuff like this, Salaryman s/t, Gary War - Police Water, The Books - The Lemon of Pink and more minimal industrial and always drone. Drone is nice for brain damage and pic related is nice if you want to feel like a kid again as your sleep hormones throw you off guard. Said albums are furiously annoying for sleep but that's also why they're fun, ambient ethereal shit will just prime you to piss your pants.

You know I used to be like you. I would shit on people for tacitly listening to music. Classical/jazz for studying/sleep bullshit. Then I started meditating, and I realized something, music has different purposes in different contexts. Meditating on Brian Eno's Music for Airports helped me discover this. I could simultaneously tune into the music while allowing my consciousness to drift. It's the same as when I listen to hardcore rap or metal while reading action manga or listening to breakbeat while playing video games. While it is necessary to devote your entire attention to music in order to fully appreciate it, there's nothing wrong with using music for other purposes, such as a conduit to enhance other sensual experiences.
