look out for the shugazi listenalongs we're having every hour starting at 4PM EST to 9 or so every day from the 17th to the 24th.

There should be a seperate thread whenever it's happening.

We're on the second day right now so it's Siesta on Sunday's Straydays EP and Candy Claws' Warm Forever.

What's with the ethereal sampling and loops?
wtf you guys told me they were just a mbv ripoff
>>
>>69819593
There's a few people that don't seem capable of picking up on anything unique about various shugazi projects. They're the ones that post about deleting all of their shoegaze except Loveless. It's sad and kind of fucked up honestly.
>>
>>69819928
niggas don't even listen to music here it's real sad
>>
>>69813370
That's up for debate. All of them are fucking amazing.
>>
>>69745295
Okay, all the Rise comparison really just stem from the sunny pop melodies, but Ride had so much more energy, more noise during the noisy parts and more ethereal qualities during the dreamy parts.
Shit's unremarkable. Mid-paced rock can only only get you so far, especially when it achieves mood but fails to really connect on any deep level.
>>
>>69821035
After another listen I gotta say they're much more on the melancholy side than Ride usually is.
>>
>>69820058

Have you've been to other generals lately? Honestly, this is one of the better threads for actually talking about music on /mu/.

honestly deafheaven is the only blackgaze band that has that kind of style that's really immediate and not too theatrical
>>
>>69824937
I feel like other bands just don't have the same pacing in their songs, for lack of better words

it's either just fucking boring or way too harsh with no breaks

also their vocals are just so good compared to similar bands, but that's just me probably
>>
>>69824937
This is the closest to what I can figure but yeah Deafheaven kinda hit the best balance in their sound between harsh black metal influences, shoegaze wall of noise production, and more theatrical post rock breaks

i liked this album too, but it's not particularly deafheaveny. lyrics are intelligble and it's more longer heavy guitars rather than rahrahrahrahrahrahrehrehrehrehrehruhruhruhruh

also, great album art
>>
>>69825053
I've listened to Lantlôs, I like them a lot and they're probably my third favorite band in the genre. The vocals could really be better though.

Melting Sun was a bit too post-metal for my tastes but it's nice for what it's worth
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILhM6EPPTAc
Woods of Desolation stick a bit closer to the black metal sphere of influence but they're worth checking out for sure
>>

I've not listened to BDN but I shall. I do have their split with deafheaven covering mogwai though, what a blend of /mu/

>>
>>69825237
I've heard Woods of Desolation too because they're also on the chart I just followed to try and find more music. I can with confidence say that the reason I don't like them as much is because of the vocals.

This is one of my favorite shoegaze albums of the year. Side B is my favorite but side A is also quite good.
>>
>>69817983
That album could have been some immersive psychedelic stuff, but it was bogged down by this really plain production. Basically mostly deserves a listen for a couple good songs and an overall nice sound and uniqueness. I'm waiting for something life-changing in the shugazi world.
>>
Anyone got recs for stuff similiar to Sleigh Bells - Treats or like Dan Friels Folklore?

I'm looking for really noisy but very energetic and happy/upbeat stuff
Noise-pop isn't what I want it to be
>>

Old Soul's Tidal Lock is RtJ worship
The new Oathbreaker is Sunbather worship (and really good at it)

They were really onto something with those guitar leads on Dreams Burn Down, interesting how some of those first-wave shoegaze bands only have little traces of psych to remind us of the psychedelic nature or the style.

Anybody here into Electro Group? They got a bandcamp and put up all of their back releases on there. Their 3 major ones are on Spotify.

does anyone else feel uncomfortable listening to standard pop music

like...it sounds like missed childhood; the type of stuff cool kids would listen to before kissing

Warm Forever and Glacier Prey by Candy Claws
>>
>>69852910
i know what you mean man.

for me shoegaze is noise to fight the noise in my head, and that makes it ironically soothing even when it's on the harsh side. Other times it's good to space out to something dreamier when im high or trying to forget about things. I was a lonely child as well, and I learned to be comfortable with feelings of sadness and loneliness, and even anger. I like shoegaze because it's more....resigned than angry. Puts me in a better mindspace than metal or punk most of the time. But I still like hardcore punk if i wanna get pissed.
>>
>>69853352
I guess what I was trying to say is that a lot of pop music is popular because it's upbeat and happy, but if you're unaccustomed to being happy and outgoing then it'll sound off to you. You want something that reflects how you feel.
>>
>>69852910
regular pop is just corny and not self aware or tasteful
idk about how the sound of pop relates to your experiences but im pretty sure it just sucks when you just really try to look to it for any deeper emotional value most of the time
>>
>>69854496

Screw emotional depth, most of that shit doesn't even sound interesting. It's boring at every level, only serving to be familiar and vaguely catchy.
