I used to, but gave up when the sense that there's a whole cult of personality surrounding the aforementioned "lotsa fake internet point" faggots became much too real. It's all too self-referential, like those low-grade rappers going "yo u kno who dis is" at the beginning of every sing, even though they strike you as the kind of person even taxmen would be prone to forget.
Also, I kinda only review albums that I like. Otherwise there's no motivation. I was, for a while, pretty happy with how a couple of my reviews came out, though. I particularly enjoyed reviewing one-album bands (given that the albums were good) and massively underrated/almost universally hated acts like Abruptum. I think Abruptum were one of the most radical, original, challenging and overlooked acts in all of metal (or at least metal's sphere of influence)

Is there anything I can do, or has my true normie form come into fruition?
>>69728955
It's not the score, but the opinion itself. Praising appalling albums, shitting on great works of art, going bananas over average nobodies who make average music and overlooking semi-hidden gems; the works. Was trying to add to the discussion boy, and maybe understand a bit more about your viewpoint more. I liked the topic and think its good environment to have a discussion about it in
>>69729424
Classic albums, the ones that are truly good and can withstand the test of time, tend to be equally popular amongst plebs and patricians.
>>69729337
Yeah, well, it's both, actually. I mean, in a world where nothing is definitive and everything is subjective and there are very few things that could be cosidered true by a large audience, what's to stop me from taking my very own subjective and personal opinion as the objective, golden standard? After all, it's no more true nor false as any other. If all opinions are worth the same, when it comes to judgement of judgement itself I might as well use mine as the ultimate standard of taste.
>>69729457
Well sorry, it seemed too radical a change of topic not to be a non sequitur. Anyway, pretentiousness is borne out of trying to aim higher than what you perceive to be other people's tastes, which are nothing but their personal, subjective opinion-- and to do that you must first, excuse the redundancy, perceive other people's opinions. That's when you become pretentious: When you care a bit too much about what other people think. Seems contradictory at first, but I'm sure you'll find behind every pretentious cunt is an insecure cunt.
>>69729474
Any opinion is valid as long as it is well-reasoned, just like with anything else in life. Noktorn is an example of someone who was capable of using reasoning to support left-field opinions effectively (see his review of DMDS--where he praises the album but brings up fresh ideas about it).

Though out of all the big names he might be the one to do that annoying thing the least. I do find he chooses some very strange ratings from time to time.
>>69729474
>>69729474
Let's just get down to the meat & taters of the argument. Do you believe there is an objective truth or that everything is relative (relativism? if that's a term). This argument is brought up even in religious, political and cultural circles but in art it's even more difficult to break down.
If you don't have a standard then that just allows for talentless hacks to pass off their works as equally monumental as those of the great artists, be it Michaelangelo or Black Sabbath to keep the discussion metal related.
As far as where to place that standard. I don't think we'll ever reach a consensus as to where to draw that line but there could be a range. Anyone with a even a brief education in music can discern whether a band or an artist has practiced and is playing within a certain skill level. You can appreciate a talented artist even if you don't necessarily enjoy their particular work.

Relativism is a completely different thing, but anyway, I feel you're not quite seeing the big picture here, and that's that classics and timeless albums, hell, even genre-defining works, are all the product of statistics. An album is not loved by most because it's the best: It's the best because it's the one that, given a random number of people with random taste, statistically, it simply is the one in which most people's taste converge. Objective opinion, or anything resembling it, is just subjective opinion at a large scale. If I roll dice for an hour, one of the faces is bound to be the one that comes up the most: That doesn't mean anything. It's just the one that came up the most times. Do it a million hours more and the result will probably different.
No, there are no golden rules or standards to measure anything, not even musical education, because, as you might have noticed, the most popular music in the world isn't exactly the one that presents the biggest challenge to compose and execute-
When I use phrases like "truly good", I'm simply appealing to terms we're all more or less familiar with, and that are just a way to circumvent stuffy and wordy explanations like the one above: Explanations which come down to the idea that there's no such thing as "good" or "bad" (and this resonates with your mention of religion and culture in general), but that there are things upon which, by mere coincidence, most people agree, because there was bound to be one aspect, whatever it is, upon which the biggest percentage agree. Nothing more.
Anyway I fail to see what you were trying to get from me, I'm sorry. I'm not being funny either; I actually got rather lost in this glossy rhetoric.
How does mu feel about Rings of Saturn?

who of you posted this
I remember a week or two ago an anon posted a song from either his or his friend's grind core band, I vaguely remember it, but really liked it. I remember the image on the vid being purplish, and the description having the lyrics which were something about killing hipsters and a monster or some shit. If that anon is here, or someone remembers the vid I'd greatly appreciate a link.

listen to metal on youtube
Anyone know some blackened death/doom I can off myself too?
And even though this is hardcore this is still so fucking good even if a bit traditional
>>69730511
No. No one else does that. No one on the whole planet, no member of the human race, no living creature before or after you has ever done that. The thought! How do you even come up with such radical, completely original and previously unheard of concepts! You must feel very special, and you should. Don't even look at the viewcounts on those videos, those are probably bots. You and only you, amongst the human race in its entirety, have ever done that. Just you. No one else. Have you considered suicide? Reconsider it then.

This is the only black metal album to succeed at making me feel like shit when I listen to it. I like xasthur and other dsbm and think its beautiful, but for some reason this album puts me in a really bleak mood like no other album can, despite it being aggressive and fast. Dont know what it is.

Yea its great, I love dissonant "avant garde" metal, for what ever reason this album just puts me in that bleak depressive mind state. Cant even say the same for their other albums.
Probably has something to do with my excessive masturbation desu
