Time for the newest installment of Oasis general! As the official newest /mu/core artist, this edition of /oasis/ general will be dedicated to discussing what makes Oasis so great. We'll discuss their best songs, albums, live performances, interviews and more!

RULES;
1. Friendo (tripfag) WILL show up. Under no circumstances should you reply to him.
2. In general, neets hate Oasis. They pride themselves on their music taste and it pains them to see people liking things they don't like. DON'T REPLY TO TROLLS
3. Stay on topic, we'll never convince elitist trolls that Oasis general should exist, so we just have to ignore them.

Let's go lads! I'll start by posting some rare Liams.

Oldfag here

Saw Oasis live in '97 on Be Here Now tour. Wembley Stadium in 2000 and 2008, Finsbury Park, City of Manchester Stadium and a few other times in arenas

Band of a lifetime. Defined an era. Defined a generation. The last truly huge Rock band before the internet came along and ruined the industry. It could never happen again.

For those who don't get it, there is nothing that can be said. For those who understand what Oasis were all about, the culture and time they represented and their message of unashamed working class optimism in the face of adversity.... Live Forever

>Oasis were never big enough to play stadiums/arenas. Especially after their Wonderwall hype wore off in 1995.

Oasis regularly filled stadiums and arenas in the UK and Europe all the way up until disbanding and they remained quite big in the US as well.
They filled up Madison Square Garden back in like 2005 or 2006, well after Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova stopped cluttering US airwaves.

Ameriburger here. I was far to young to see Oasis in their prime, but I did see them on their last US tour at MSG. The newer material wasn't that good outside the singles and Liam's voice was just as fucked as it had been for the past decade, but still it was a fun time. I couldn't believe they would be done for less than a year later. "The Shock of the Lightning" was getting a TON of airplay on radio at the time which was the first time I had even heard a new song of theirs on the radio since "Lyla" and their first major rock/alternative radio hit since "Go Let it Out". The album also sold decently well in the states too. They were really starting to turn their career around here after completely falling off right after SOTSOG came out.

Can we get some love going for Bonehead?

Described by Noel as "the spirit of Oasis". He basically just strummed barre chords but by all accounts was a mad bastard and he truly loved Oasis and what they stood for.

I always preferred him and Guigs to Gem and Andy. The latter may have been better musicians but they took the soul out of Oasis. Bonehead and Guigs were pretty punk really, limited musicians to say the least but, I dunno, they just seemed to fit. Same with McCarroll. He gets slated and Alan White was a great drummer. But his punky drumming was perfect for DM

>you move up the release date of your upcoming single so that it comes out on the same date of the other band's upcoming single

Mansun
>>

There isn't one.

Late 90s/Early 00s was just a Britpop hangover which gave birth to insipid shit like Travis and Coldplay. It was a truly shit time for music and I remember it well because I turned 18 in 2000

A musical vacuum was created in the absence of any credible British rock bands. Kasabian were a decent singles band their first 3 albums then they just became the most formulaic, contrived Oasis arse lickers around. They owe pretty much all their success to hanging off Oasis coattails and supporting them everywhere they could. But, whatever, they liked football etc and sounded a bit trippy so the parka wearing, Liam wannabe army took them into their hearts. Same can be said for shite like The Enemy.

Arctic Monkeys were a one album wonder for me (many will debate that, just my opinion). Neither they nor Kasabian could ever sell out, or indeed, rock a stadium like Oasis, nor write anthemic hits like Oasis did.

tldr - No one can rival Oasis. Kasabian and AM are shite. Music basically died in 1997. The End

Nailed it

Blur were a good pop band. The kind of band 13 year old girls liked before they got bored of bands, grew tits and started listening to Dance music instead. Oasis fans stayed the distance. Me and my mates are still religious about them 20 years on

But Albarn and Alex James were/are fucking bitches. Art school mockneys all the way.

Just because a band is more "varied" and experimental doesn't mean their overall output and influence is somehow automatically superior

Blur never wrote anything resembling a Wonderwall. Lots of catchy as fuck 90s pop and some other great tunes like Beetlebum and Tender. But they were nothing like Oasis and vice versa. You can't compare 2 bands with totally different backgrounds and musical aims. Its a pointless exercise

Yes, especially if the part about him begging to come back is true. I don't remember ever hearing that. The guy fucking quit right before they went on Letterman!

I would have to guess he was nervous because his girl was threatening to leave him. He had probably been in a relationship for so long that his reality was distorted to the point that he didn't understand he could have been with ANY girl he wanted... well any girl that Liam or Noel didn't already pick up.
