I'm of the opinion that at one point, Rivers Cuomo really was autistic as fuck. Just listen to Pinkerton and read his stories about his old college days. But at some point got married, traded in his good songwriting and dorky lyric-writing for mainstream appeal, and became normie as fuck, all while pretending to totally still be a nerd JUST LIKE YOU. By this point, it's mostly an act and kind of an annoying one.
