I always thought that it sounded way too much like the original even though it's supposed to be done in a whole different genre.

The Ataris are an even bigger offender of this. I have no respect for an artist whose sole successful single is just a copy of another artist's work.

Sinead O'Connor on the other hand, got her one-hit wonder by changing up a song that was never even released as a single. If you're going to make your ONLY mark with a cover, that's at least the way to do it.
