We all just want Hype Williams to get back together
>>
>21. Princess Nokia - 1992
nice
>>
There's a lot of things I'm very happy about, like Lolina, EVOL (I think it's been overlooked, it's a fucking masterpiece), DJWWWW, etc., but I'm also a bit sad to see Lil Yachty above Young Thug, KK Bonito, Charli XCX (WTF TMT?!) on the list.
>>
>>69665328
I mean I'm sad to see lil yachty above young thug, AND I'm sad to see Charli XCX and KK Bonito on the list at all
>>
inb4 white victim complex posters
>>
>23. Solange - A Seat at the Table

What? How can they give a FEMALE BLACK MUSICIAN that low of a ranking in 2 0 1 6????
>>
>>69664924

it was good until I got to the top 10
>>
haha tom york BTFO
>>
What is Babyfather?
>>
>>69665701
Dean Blunt playing Craig David samples over an acoustic guitar backing
>>
how is it that TMT's list is even worse than p4k's?
>>
>>69665730
how ?
number 2 is some white russian bitch
>>
>08. Charli XCX - Vroom Vroom [EP]

Good list
>>
>>69665365
>EVOL
>masterpiece
It's just his old shit with a brighter pop sheen more suited for rap radio and clubs.

Savage Mode was a far more interesting release.
>>
>>69665730
P4k's list is just a really generic popchart list that is the same as every major publication. At least TMT choose some under the radar stuff.
>>
>>69665860
This.

Other than that decent list
>>
>>69665860
reminder that thequietus has the only good list so far
>>
>>69665730
you mean better
>>
inga at #2 and dean at #1. Definitely a TMT list.
>>
i see autechre got liturgy-ed
>>
Actually surprised Lemonade is that low here. They had one of the more hyperbolic reviews of it.
>>
>>69665815
It's literally filled with songs that easily range among his best. Xanny Family, Lil Haiti Baby, Lie To Me, Low Life, Fly Shit Only, Wicked, etc

Purple Reign and EVOL were both amazing. E.T. not so much, but still good
>>
>>69665730
Because you only listened to like 1/15-1/10 of the songs on the list, and are just judging by the most well-known album's placement on the list
>>
>>69666110
albums* not songs
>>
>no radiohead

List disregarded
>>
>>69664924
decent: there are few picks I don't like (Charli XCX, Kanye, Tumor, Crampton, Rihanna) but I undersand why they entered the top 50. Not enough EDM or experimental stuff tho.
>>
>>69666421
>EDM
please don't call it that
"EDM" refers to the kind of bro festival crap that Americans "pop molly" too
>>
>>69666044
What does this mean

>>69665995
James Ferraro pushed all the way back to a #7 spot tho....
>>
>>69664924

>01. Babyfather - BBF Hosted by DJ Escrow

*vomits*
>>
>>69664924
>Beyonce at 32
>Solange at 23
>Rihanna at 14
>Yachty above all

I'm okay with this list, nice
My captcha was boats
>>
>>69666421
what did you dislike about Demon City?

Overall this is a cool list and I'll probably check out some of the more obscure records. I'm pretending Rihanna isn't on it.
>>
>>69664924
Since when did TMT gain respect as a music site? The contributors are god-awful.
>>
Along with Resident Advisor this is the second place that has named Babyfather album of the year. Kinda gave up on Blunt a while back, maybe I should check it out.

Otherwise, here's the list aggregate so far for AOTY:

http://www.albumoftheyear.org/list/summary/2016/

>Top 10 from that
David Bowie - Blackstar (362 points)
Beyoncé - Lemonade (338 points)
Frank Ocean - Blonde (304 points)
Solange - A Seat At The Table (263 points)
Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool (242 points)
Chance The Rapper - Coloring Book (226 points)
Kanye West - The Life Of Pablo (204 points)
Angel Olsen - My Woman (189 points)
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Skeleton Tree (183 points)
A Tribe Called Quest - We Got It From here...Thank You 4 Your Service (183 points)
>>
Jesus Christ, this is the worst list, yet.
>>
>>69668493
If you didn't like Blunt before, I doubt you'd like him in this form. I personally don't get it at all.
>>
>>69668567
Maybe if you have shit taste.
>>
>>69668571
escrow was selecting tunes in the mist early on
dean shows up after some guy posts up a british flag on escrows table
that's when the lights turn on the crowd, these bright ass spotlights that made every indie fuck in the audience seem really confused; like deer and headlights
he did tunes off the album, some older cuts, unreleased stuff too
you could only see his face at times when the light was just right, but he did seem angry in his presence and performance
his rapping sounded like he was very annoyed, he called the crowd crackers, he put alot of emphasis on words that were sure to offend: slut, hoe. i did see a chick grab her cuck bf and leave during the show
overall good show
>>
>>69668583
Not really. Babyfather shouldn't be there at all. Neither should The Life of Pablo, but if it had to be it should have been in the bottom 10. Only good inclusions are Jenny Hval, Danny Brown, Jessy Lanza, and Puce Mary.

Not a good list.

If you are wanting to look for under the radar stuff, go look at The Quietus' list (almost entirely hidden gems) and to a lesser extent Gorilla v Bear's.
>>
>>69668690
>Only good inclusions are Jenny Hval, Danny Brown, Jessy Lanza, and Puce Mary.
Yeah, this just reinforces my original opinion lol.

>go look at The Quietus' list (almost entirely hidden gems)
A lot of that stuff is "hidden" but I wouldn't necessarily say they are "gems." A lot of bullshit on that list.
>>
>>69668279
But they cover a lot of music that I like, which is the main reason why I go there.
>>
I find it important to support sites like TMT. Rihanna at 14? Disgusting.

But the list is a bit surprising, especially HS3 and Lemonade pretty low (for their standards)
>>
>>69664924

I don't like the Babyfather album at all but I have to at least give them credit for not picking a predictable buzzworthy album like every other publication is for reasons that aren't even music-related (Bowie, Solange, Frank Ocean, etc.)
>>
>>69665365
>I'm sad to see Charli XCX and KK Bonito on the list at all
why? they are both better than EVOL
>>
>>69665799
this, basically. i put up with their shitty "experimental" writing for this sort of stuff
>>
gross
>>
this makes me proud to be british
>>
a lot of good choices in the first half (#50-#25) but it gets a bit predictable after that.
>>
>>69668690
>If you are wanting to look for under the radar stuff, go look at The Quietus' list (almost entirely hidden gems) and to a lesser extent Gorilla v Bear's.

>literally praises puce fucking mary
fuck off poser
>>
>>69669636
Puce Mary is tiny, in terms of popularity and following.

Also, I never even referred specially to those artists as being 'hidden gems'. Learn to read, or at least to not fill writing with your own inferences and make them out to be truths.

>>
>>69670380
>David Bowie at Number 1 and a bunch of "literally who" poseur-core
yeah no thanks
>>
>>69670411
There is no "poseur-core" on the Wire's list, honestly. It's actually pretty accessible.
>>
>>69670427
I haven't checked out the list yet but that's surprising. Aren't they notorious for focusing on the sort of "avant-garde" and "experimental" free jazz, neo classical, drone, doom metal, noise type music that could be considered "poseur-core"?
>>
>>69668626
Hahaha
>>
>>69670470
eh, they cover a lot of that stuff but their end of year lists usually aren't super obscure. there's always a few complete left-field choices, but on the other hand there's always been loads of crossover with fact, quietus, boomkat, ra, tmt etc.

for example their #1 spots over the past few years have gone to jlin, aphex twin, rashad becker, laurel halo, james ferraro - all highly publicized albums in """underground"""" music.
>>
>>69670660
this. But they do cover plenty of "out there" music in their regular issues.
>>
>>69668690
That Jessy Lanza album is so unremarkable.
>>
>>69671799
Honestly, this. I really wanted to like it, but I just didn't.
>>
>>69669315
Their writing is nonsensical dribble at times.
>>
>>69670411
>>69670470
If a shitty Montie/IRC meme is keeping you from listening to different artists/albums you have no place to comment on others' tastes
>>
where is bottomless pit
>>
Guess I need to cop Lolina already
>>
>>69671920
>all the time
ftfy
I can only make it in a few sentences through most of their reviews. Shitty, angsty philosphy-undergrad-tryhard-academic garbage.
>>
>>69670470
>poseur-core
bro you're the embodiment of irony kys
>>
>>69664959
Right?
>>69665183
Hell yeah!

Thought Yves Tumor should've cracked the top 10, but that is a solid top 10. Kanye should be lower, but I could sit here all day and say albums should be moved around.
>>
>>69672038
in the trash where it belongs
>>
>>69665653
you do know that the writers at TMT have probably the most legitimately "radical left" politics of any major music blog, right?
>>
>>69668493
>fine but not top 10 material
>fine but not top 10 material
>overhyped shit
>fine but not top 10 material
>boring album from a boring band that hasn't been not boring in years
>overhyped shit
>fine but not top 10 material
>fine but not top 10 material
>fine but not top 10 material
>actually pretty good. still not top 10 material.
>>
>>69673483
nice lol i majored in STEM too
>>
>>69675165
and?
>>
>>69675347
>nice lol i majored in STEM too
Well, I mean who wouldn't?
>>
Glad to see Autechre on there, for me Elseq 1-5 is easily the best album from this whole list. Also why the fuck do they include Lil Yachty? I get that he is a funny meme but who in their right mind thinks he actually makes quality music?
>>
>>69664924
Can we definitely stop with arca?
>>
Vroom Vroom is one of the most relevant releases of the year. Listen to the song Trophy
