If he never killed himself, would they still have been as influential?
Maybe not, or at least less people would have been drawn to their music. Death, especially suicide, adds an aura of mystique to any artist's work before they died. Like its frozen in time kinda.

>would they still have been as influential?
after releasing UP there were many bands around playing guitar like Sumner, having same basslines and baritone vocal of Curtis.

They would have been even more influential, they were due to start their debut US tour just days before he killed himself, imagine all the potential US bands that would have formed in the wake of seeing them play live , after all Joy Division formed after going to a Sex Pistols gig

I think they would have still been influential, but they would probably not be as legendary.
>>69656932
No, because New Order was where they did their most important work

>US appreciating good music
Why do you think Hendrix left?
>>69657875>this
not only Hendrix, pixies too.
many band underappreciated in US but become cult in Brit
>>69656932
there's no way
his suicide is why they're so popular today
there'd be no mythology around them if he hadn't committed suicide
he wouldn't be the master
>>69656932
he killed himself to make JD legendary so his name could never die
really makes you think...
>>69657847
Agreed. His suicide was the best thing that happened to the band.

the music would probably be way different if he wasn't going to kill himself
