Is there a popular song thats as sad as fast car?
Whenever it comes on in public i have to hold back the tears,
It captures the feeling of trying but being stuck soo well.

It sounds like he was too wrapped up in his own emiotions, soo instead of writing a good song he was just pouring his heart out, which while i can respect the song for what it is, its not for me

yeah I'm on the same page as that anon. Candle in the Wind does that better, though it's not about a child
on topic, if Tracy Chapman were born a decade earlier, she'd have been a godtier singer-songwriter. A lot of her music is ruined by kitschy commercial 80s production
ALL AROUND ME IS FAMILIAR FACES
Fast Car never really sounded "sad", just vert bittersweet
Fast car is a great song, I actually think that whole album is pretty good desu but that could be the nostalgia talking.
Kind of cool how Tracy was discovered busking in a subway, she made a few albums, got her money, then dipped out of public life and is retired somewhere now. I like when people have no real interest in being famous for some reason.
