From my experience (I've met a lot of producers and worked in the industry for 10+ years)
Swap ableton users with cubase.

Add protools and have a picture of a professional recording studio with successful producers

Exchange the Logic Pro user for someone who works full time scoring films professionally, has a BA in composition, massive jazz trumpet chops, a grand piano in his living room and a really nice house with sound-proofed windows so he can record his jazz trumpet and use it on film scores. Oh and give him a bunch of terabyte HDDs under the desk.
This is based on an actual guy I know.

Exchange the 100% hardware guy for pic related

I'd like to make some minimalist IDM or breakcore type stuff, maybe try to make some complex pieces if I can. I'd love to make a living out of it one day, but if it means selling out then I'll settle for making less. I just fear I've been insufficiently trained to be able to compose/produce music on the appropriate level.

You can learn how to produce pretty fast for cheap nowadays. By now you shouldn't be sweating switching up scales to get the sound you want.
>>
>>69657073
This too. Never had any musical training before.jumping into producing. You can learn along the way, fl studio tutoriala basically taught me.
>>
>>69657073
Well yeah, but the music theory that we covered wasn't exactly in depth. I can get by, I guess. If someone put sheet music in front of me I could probably play it with a few days' practice, but you know. I'm just unsure.
>>
>>69657090
I also haven't had any music theory exept for the basics, Just jump in and experiment around in your chosen DAW. check some tutorials and maybe read some musical theory.

There is never no time to learn.

>>
>>69657090

Ignore >>69657111

Just start with a DAW, instrumental ability isn't needed to work in a DAW anyway. I just type in notes, for example. But a simple MIDI keyboard would serve compositional purposes, and if you want to do IDM, there's a lot more to do than just composition.
>>
You guys are all fuckin nerds tweaking knobs rather than real musicians. That's why no one will ever listen to your music, it is interesting from a technical production sense, but it has no relevance to anyone else.

I'm not saying you can't be a real musician making 100% digital music, just that you guys aren't. You are like the dude who spends 12 hours a day practicing guitar and after all that can only play ridiculous runs of robotic sounding arpeggios, not anyone could do it but no one gives a shit because it is masturbation not music.

>>
>>69659536
There's not many analog synth options under $1000.

Korg Volcas (~$150)
Arturia Microbrute ($270)
Korg Monologue ($300)
Korg MS-20 Mini ($450)
Korg Minilogue ($500)
ARP Odyssey ($550)
Moog Sub Phatty ($789)
DSI Prophet 08 ($1000-$1300)

Your only option under $200 would be one of the Volcas. I would recommend coughing up some more money and either getting the new Monologue or a Microbrute (they are mono only, though). The only affordable analog poly synth under $1000 is the Minilogue, which is $500.

>>
>>69653570
kek i think that doing a change like that to something totally different sounding halfway through is actually quite good. just try to go back to the beginning sound after that to give it a sense of conclusion.
>>
>>69660555
MicroBrute or 2 volcas seems like your only sensible option in that price range.
>>
>>69657145
yeah theory isnt really needed. you can learn bits of theory as you go, thats probably the best way to do it. if you try learning theory before you start writing songs you dont know how to actually apply the theory, or your music is too much into the theory. if you learn the theory as you make songs you can apply it and use it to better your music.

Yeah that's all good, a lot of people are very pretentious about it though I guess that's my issue.
Like just before I posted I came from listening to some faggot 14 year old currynigger who was making awful generic EDM, but there were a few things about it that were pretty sick like a couple big supersaws and cool melodies that caught my interest a bit, basically there was more good in this retarded 14 year old's music than anything I hear from all these pretentious 20something white college dudes who are autismally obsessed with 'sound design' (aka taking good sounds which constitute music and making them sound shit).
But everyone was ripping the shit out of this dude, like 'OMG this sounds awful you really suck bro' type of thing. They are grown men who wouldn't know a good melody if it jumped straight out of their DAW and slapped them in the face, yet they are hating on a literal child for trying to make something that people actually like.

>>69660934
I like learning new stuff about production, some people here are pretty knowledgeable. Also the feedback here is usually decent if I post my own stuff, and I have helped a few other people in the past, its pretty chill in these threads I just thought I would ruin the vibe because I am a bad person.
>>
>>69661111
Sounds fine on my monitors.

I think its like neurofunk like the other dude said, its pretty cool although I got a little bored but I think people who like this music like that kind of structure so you're probably good, the mix is nice other than losing the kick in places.

I think the kick sample isn't so great for certain parts where it gets more full on like at the end, maybe just needs more highs so it cuts through a little better, or maybe sidechain it i dunno, try a few things coz it loses the power of the beat when the kick fades into the background.

Thanks for the listening guys. I'm realising just now how it's long and how I could lose the people attention, but in the same time I love so much trying to picture a little story. Gaining popularity would be cool, but I would have trouble doing radio edits. I'll see how future tracks shape up.

As for the space in the mix yeah it lacks some, unfortunately the main drum loop is a rich wav sample. I did not learned yet how to treat beat samples, but for sure treating it would have helped me a lot with the mix. I never spent so much time on a single track, I will definitely do better decisions on the next ones.

Low pass the distorsion before real mixing. I would suggest making the most lower note of that one instrument a more sinusoidal sub.

There's definitely some huge vibes lying under a pile of mud. I can only hope the high progressively opens in the full space of speakers, boucing gently left and right, rotating in front and in back of my head. While the distorsion still is there in mediums, in her own instrument type of movement.

7/10 without knowing context.

8.3/10 otherwise. But yeah the composition is good.

Thanks m8, looks really solid. For me I can share the Mixing Audio by Roey Izhaki - the basic mixing book

They're synths. They were made by Commies. You can make pew pew sounds with them.

Can you give a time for me?
I have pads in most parts of the song.
Anything else?
I know mixin/mastering isn't too great right now, but that is usually the last part of my production process

I forgot to add that on their website there is a collections of .wav files for each section. Helps a lot.

I use Steinberg UR22 and it's nice, except the clipping on hi-z. Focusrite 2i2 is nice too. Depends on what you look for

Is "musical key emotions" a thing?
If I write a death metal song in C Major, would it sound gay?
>>
>>69667885
of course major and minor keys have their obvious effect but in a (well) tempered system key coloration is close to none, which is the point of the temperament

Just a mellow atmospheric piece I made, let me know what you think. Still getting used to ableton. Is there a way to arrange a completely piece without recording and hitting start and stop on teh different samples / tracks?
>>
>>69666342
2 years? It only has that issue when you use electric guitar without any DI box or effect. It's a problem with gain function, minimum is set too high on high-z. it should be -6db, and it's 0db. Maybe they fixed it with new drivers I honestly didn't check for a long time.
