Who was the better songwriter, Lennon or McCartney? I say Lennon.

I say McCartney, for some reason the general consensus outside of /mu/ says Lennon. Not sure why.

I like Lennon for his psyche stuff in the Beatles, but McCartney has some proper tunes as well.

After some many years of thinking it was John, I have to say it's Paul. They are both pretty great, but Paul's ideas are more developed, even if they are more tame. At least while they were in the Beatles, Paul was the better songwriter.

Lenon could write meaningful full lyrics
Paul could write creative story like lyrics
Both are good in there own way but lenon always cared more about what he was saying and how he was saying it in his lyrics

because lennon got shot, and dying means your music is better outside of /mu/
Plastic Ono Band blows Ram and Band On The Run out of the water, and John wrote all of my favorite Beatles songs. Not really a contest for me but I respect what Paul was doing too.

Paul McCartney was easily the best popular songwriter of the 20th century.

I disagree wholeheartedly. I think Plastic Ono Band is an amazing album, but Ram and Band On The Run are the two best albums ever released by any of the Beatles, solo or collectively.
