Both house music and techno typically have a "four on the floor" beat, where every quarter note there is a kick drum.
x---x---x---x
In house music the there is usually a high hat on every off beat, like this.
x-o-x-o-x-o-x
This gives it the "uh tss uh tss uh tss uh tss" sound that people make fun of.
Techno can be a bit more varied, either having the hi-hat fall on the 2nd and 4th beats for more danceable stuff, or having the drum beat on every eighth note for more fast paced stuff.
Typically house music is brighter and more melodic, and depending on the sub genre of house music, has vocals more often than not.
Techno is darker and more dystopian, and lends itself more to being kind of "experimental."

Brostep is basically a bastardisation of british dubstep with american edm tendencies. Listen to Skrillex for Brostep, and Benga for dubstep and note the differences.
Brostep has the LFO-modulated bass in the midrange, where as dubstep usually has it in the very deep low-end.

Also, House usually has a "bigger" sound that's louder and has more harmonies
Techno tends to be quieter with less harmonies

I like to generalize techno as le minimalist jazzy chord future tribal but its a cool genre and I find myself listening to techno a lot more than house these days

Both house and techno are different genres that are over 30 years old with numerous sub-styles.
That's like someone in 1993 asking "what's the difference between rock and metal?"
And you call this a superior music board ful of "patricians".
Techno is supposed to sound high tech, like Kraftwerk. House is supposed to sound like disco music sort of. But this only applies to early versions. Later on it gets less easy to define, and you get stuff like Tech-house, etc, and it all kind of sounds the same lol

No, I think those descriptions still hold. House is basically post-disco music, techno is typically harder and less overtly melodic.
