If you could ban one thing about music what would it be?

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

I'd go further and say to be a critic you have to have a credit on at least one commercially released record.
They would be more careful with how they review shit if their crap was out there to be heard and scrutinized.
i bet we'd get good back and forth banter

logically makes no sense, why would they be more careful?

the motivation of careful evaluation is their reputation as a critic, for the public through public ears

>They would be more careful with how they review shit if their crap was out there to be heard and scrutinized.
Yeah they would be real careful not to be honest so as to not attract criticism of their own work

I'm neither, and I still disagree with your opinion. Why on earth would limiting who can be a music critic to a select number of people who can pass an instrumental audition be a good idea? You are immediately limiting the scope of people who can critique music immensely. Maybe you are of the opinion that people who aren't versed in music theory aren't good musicians, and that's an entirely new kettle of fish but one I wont bother trying to make sense of, because your choice is quite simple. If you don't respect someone's opinion about music as you don't think they are qualified to talk about it, just don't read their criticism.

To suggest they shouldn't be allowed to have a published opinion on music, and goes against the foundations of most democratic societies is completely idiotic.

So yeah, really dumb opinion dude.

Great bands from the 80s/90s reuniting and releasing extremely uncool shit to mediocre records. This trend needs to die. There are rare exceptions like Swans but most of the time it just makes me ashamed to like the band.

The worst thing about this is that they're ignoring professional musicians who don't release music (e.g. someone in an instrumental ensemble) or musicians who are unable to get a "commercial" release (e.g. avant-garde musician).

Basically, these retards are saying you have to be a pop musician to be able to critique music.
