I'm a big critic of lemonade as well. For starters Formation is basically objectively bad. How that got any praise is completely beyond me. Then there's Daddy Lessons orbwhayever. Yet another r'nb/pop artist who has no business around a guitar at east for this song. Even the best song on this album never elevates beyond average.

what do your post mean? you can't even explain what aspect of this song you dislike while naming your opinion objective
>>
>>69554981
Oh god where do I even begin? At times it's like there's literally two incompatible songs mashed in addition to the inherent discordance of an individual part.

Let's statybwith whatever in the fuck this sound is that opens the song and continues through literally 95% of the song.

and then what other phrase does it feafure, tritones? Or is it something even more discordant that the song ends on. Don't get me wrong you will literally not find a bigger fan of discordance and tritones but they have their place and its hit or miss.

There's really not much to this song I'm sure we could dissect the whole thing.

>>69555008

>>
>>69555008
Let's take the entire first 30 seconds of this 3:30 song. There is literally no musical element that is not discordant. And again what the fuck is this noise? Some out of time guitar with a literal broken bridge run through a delay? Yeah let's do that the whole song.

I'm already busy dissecting one song here. And I'm specifically referring to 0:30-1:00 mark. It's like there's 3 different melodies, none of which are compatible.
>>
>>69555080
i actually like it a lot
>>
>>69555087
In what way? Half this song is literally approaching Corey Feldman territory.

I think it could really be left at this incessant out of tune guitar sound. If anyone wants to hear that for 3 minutes then I dunno to each their own.

>Half this song is literally approaching Corey Feldman territory.

except that she gives an amazing vocal performance over modern day production which is also quite good imo

you should be one of those people who think that TMR is garbage

also I have to repeat, but do you actually think that blackstar is approaching corey feldman territory as well?
>>
>>69555149
What don't I get? It's very obviously intentionally discordant i.e. bad. However the trick is to make the discordance work for the song so that it isn't actually bad. I think Beyonce fails to understand this and so I'm assuming this is her very first venture into this territory i.e. babbys first discordance.
>>
>>69555172
>It's very obviously intentionally discordant i.e. bad
why are you answering your question just after asking it?
>>
>>69555166
>over modern day production
Wut

I don't understand what specific point you're trying to make here.
>>
>>69555109
Kodama by Alcest
>>
>>69555180
Are you saying it's not intentionally discordant? Are you saying that discordance isnt inherently bad and requires a certain context to make it good?
>>
>>69555184
I only implied that corey Feldman's production reflects 90s and early 2000s
>>
>>69555197
im saying that it's not bad in general, and it's quite good in this song in particular
>>
>>69555198
Ah, I can't honestly say I'm particularly fAmiliar with it or have even heard the entire literal epic that it is.
>>
>>69555208
But you do agree that it's intentionally discordant. Has she ever made a song like this before? It really seems like babbys first.
>>
>>69555225
It is definitely intentionally
She also did it a couple of times on her 2013 album
I don't understand how this sounds like "baby's first", I think it's really well made, since it's hard to understand what is wrong with this song on the first listen, it felt unexpectedly chaotic
I really enjoy this song a lot and I'm not a big fan of pop or hip-hop

>>69555214
why don't you answer my questions about blackstar? Are you so hypocritical you don't want to admit it? I mean the way you describe formation is also relevant to that song
It's probably okay to be hypocritical in discussion of these two albums on mu, I've already had similar discussions a couple of times.
>>
>>69555288
Wut we're already comparing it to Corey Feldman and actually i tbink my time would be better spent reviewing that since I've heard blackstar about 20 times

Not to mention the point was determining how objectively bad this song is, not relatively bad.
>>
>>69555061
I didn't love the new Totorro album, but I still don't understand why no one talks about them on this board
>>
>>69555368
>art is objective
ok, im going to stop now
>>
>>69555397
The criteria can be subjective but within those bounds it can be objective

But yeah I suppose if someone enjoys hearing whatever literal boing that's throughout this entire song and not only thinks it works but thinks it excels then to each their own. I still think it sounds like babbys first at very best. Wow literal boing how chaotic.

There are no real fillers or at least very very few on IYRTITL, while there are quite some on Views. IYRTITL is just overall a more solid album, some of Drakes best songs ever.

I personally think it's better than Nothing Was the Same, and that only Take Care is better.

i mean, you can't even say why you dislike these songs? that's fun
i don't think any of these albums are good btw
>>
>>69559797
What the fuck? I don't know what to tell you, I think there are too many bad and boring songs on Views. Why I think so? I don't know, to me a lot of the songs in the first half sound half-assed and some of the lyricism is just straight out embarassing.

Views wasn't terrible, it's rather a case of me considering IYRTITL an extremely good album and Drake's second best.

What's your fucking point? Cool, you dislike Drake, why?
>>
>>69559855
>caring about lyrics

>you dislike Drake
no i don't, i liked a couple of the songs on these albums, but i think they both have a lot of filler,

i only see how people complain about lyrics on views like it's a lot worse that the lyrics in IYRTITL, but there's a lot of cringey lines on the latter as well, everyone just forgot about them because melon and p4k liked this album

Personally think a lot of his solo stuff is great. Gruidés was a personal favorite for me last year.
>>
>>69559555
Views wouldve been as good as IYRTITL if it was the same length
Views is just too long w too much filler
>>
>>69560136
Probably the first time I've seen Shearwater show up on an EOTY list, loved it
>>
>>69559897
I generally don't care about lyrics, ONLY when they're so good/bad - or rather, that the delivery is so good/bad - that I notice them. And that's the case on Views, imo.

Also, I can obviously sense that you're somehow pissed off at me for having my opinion. However, you don't really make a whole lot of arguments yourself.

I don't know how to explain it to you, I think IYRTITL is a great album with few to none fillers, while Views seems half-assed. I don't agree with your sentiment that IYRTITL is full of fillers, but feel free to think so. You just don't give ANY reasons at all, while expecting me to do so.
>>
in no order
>>
>>69560235
I really like half of the songs on Views, but I gotta say, that I keep appreciating IYRTITL more and more, and I still don't think Views would have been of the same quality, even if some of the shittier songs were cut away.
