Problem is that a lot of people do like an artist (or at least like them more than they normally would) if they're attracted to them. This isn't specific to women by any means, see the boy band phenomenon and how popular certain male artists are on tumblr, but since /mu/ is mostly straight men it's only really a problem with female artists.
So when attractive AND actually good female musicians come along, it's easy to assume the hype is due to waifufags than musical talent.
