An experiment in a pen-and-paper composing general, made for all the theory autists
Post with the intent on discussing composition. And remember, this is NOT /classical/. Any music, such as jazz, is acceptable.
Post clyps and accompanying notation so we can accurately critique your composing from a theory perspective

I just performed a cello suite someone wrote for me. It was tons of fun
But that's why I'm working on absolutely nothing at the moment.
what are those 80-90s DAW called
How should I approach writing an etude for myself? I can't seem to find something good for the cello to start learning microtones with, so I figure I should take to writing it myself.

a tone poem based on pic related
currently 11 notes and 4 bars down
I am getting better but I need to learn song structure and transitioning better. Which link would be good for that?
>Religious music was at the centre of Bach's output for much of his life. The hundreds of sacred works he created are usually seen as manifesting not just his craft but a truly devout relationship with God
remember that composing for God is the first step in music theory.
how to into composing, /comp/?
I say we go after the Kpop crowd in order to keep /comp/ alive. Every week we analyse the music of popular Kpop groups.

is it ok if I go from D# to A
>>69534922
no absolutely never
you will be banned from music
>>69535002
you are probably right because it just sounds "off" when I do that
>>69535028
well all you're doing is using a dimished 5th, so if you use the right chords then anythings possible I guess. Try any variation of a Cdim or an Ebm7b5 chord before the A.

thanks that worked well.
So one question, on dominant 7s, you aren't supposed to alter the 7th, but the question is, on the tritone sub of that dominant 7, is it okay to alter the original's chord 7th, since now there is a new 7?
Basically does going from
C G Bb Db E ( lower to higher order) to F# B C# E, is it okay? I don't get the jarring clash when I have a major 7 and a dominant 7.
