The only Punk music I seem to enjoy is crossover/Metal Punk. Bands like Cro Mags, Discharge, Amebix, Flipper and Black Flag. I also am into more technical Post hardcore bands like NoMeansNo. I don't care for stuff like Minor Threat, Dead Kennedys. If anyone has some recs for me, I would greatly appreciate it. Don't feel the need to limit yourself to lesser known bands because I have an extremely surface level knowledge of Punk.

I'd love to find more modern bands that are like a continuation of Zen Arcade: high-energy drumming and vocals, jazz-influenced harmonies, layers of guitar/bass tones and effects, lyrics that are more mature in that they cast off melodrama/emotional-extremes and instead embrace wonder/questioning/balance.

Sure, it might not be "punk", but I'm sure it would fit somewhere in the post-punk realm.

Gimme some fuckin bangers tho pls senpai. None of that boring ass moderate tempo Pink Flag shit. 200-300bpm is ideal. Idk. I just like the energy.

Last Saturday Punk Rock Karaoke was playing in the bar next door. I was going to go until I heard that Cock Sparrer was in town at the last minute.

While it would've been fun to sing Sonic Reducer with people like Greg Hetson Steve Soto Stan Lee and the drummer from Goldfinger acting as my back up band there was no way I was gonna miss Cock Sparrer.

I feel you on the crossover part. I genuinely prefer the late 80's hardcore bands to the more "traditional" ones from the early 80's. I'll take the Cro-Mags, Leeway and Agnostic Front over stuff like Reagan Youth or JFA any day.

Even nowadays bands like Power Trip or Iron Reagan just hit that sweet spot between metal and punk that I just love so much.

It's never actually been proven although so many people make a stink about it that shows have been cancelled and bands have left the tour.

Nobody really kicked up a fuss about it last time they played Reggie's at least not within the Chicago scene so I don't think anybody will kick up a fuss this time. Saw 'em last time they played Reggie's and there wasn't any trouble. The rumors don't stop me from enjoying their music.

If it was in the early 1980s then inasmuch as I find homophobic attitudes distasteful I think he can be forgiven for ignorant youthful indiscretions. Remember this is a person who once hit somebody over the head with a hammer because somebody blew pot smoke in his face at a party when he was 16. Ian McKay is a bit older and wiser now and probably doesn't hold those opinions anymore. Lord knows he's washed his hands of straight edge and wants nothing to do with that anymore.
