What's the best hi-gain distortion pedal? Pic probably unrelated.

I bought the MT-2 when I was a metal-head teenager. An excellent pedal for playing Randy Rhoads riffs in your basement, but the consensus nowadays (as far as I know) is that it's not so good.
I'm partial to tube overdrive now, or normal distortion if necessary. The MT-2 does not do that well.
Japanese boss HM-2

People seem to hate it these days. It apparently has a cheap, dirty tone. I've had one for 6 years and I still like it, but I've had a lot of time to figure out how to make it sound decent.

I've heard the HM-2 is the pedal everyone misses since the MT-2 replaced it. I've never had one.
>>69523235
they miss it because it makes your guitars sound like a chainsaw
>>69523356
Sounds more like TV static with the pitch lowered. Sounds like garbage but I'll give them credit for playing the way they want.
>>69523422
maybe if the TV was playing home renovation shows with power tool testing
>>69522932
Whatever kind Entombed used back in the day.
>>69523483
No, just recorded TV static with the pitch lowered. I don't hear a power tool sound at all.

this desu.
sounds very distorted and noisey, but unlike most shitty distortion pedals it doesn't sound flat and horrible as if it's being played out of cellphone speakers. it's got some power and clarity to it. kind of a one trick pony though; i'd recommend just using overdrive and amp gain 90% of the time.

>just use amp gain 90% of the time
I would but my amp is one of these and it's gain sounds like shit. Seriously it's a fucking nightmare.

>implying only the Japanese made ones
I've heard and played both. Don't bullshit me with some minute tonal differences.
Boss HM-2 desu

I use a ProCo RAT pedal for black metal. Aside from that the Danelectro FAB Metal is the only other distortion pedal I've ever liked.

the Korean ones sound noticeably different imo

Now there I can hear it, especially in that first one. Btw how do you know they use the HM-2?
