plebeian
>>
>>69521188
You're basically streaming data from your own hard drive or from another hard drive.
>>
I use Google Play even though it's missing a ton of albums I like.
>>
>>69521254
At least you can upload everything it doesn't have.
>>
I actually can't imagine anyone having fully utilized all 4 but I use spotify and want for barely anything let alone data allowance
>>
Spotify by far
>>
Been using Spotify since it was invite only beta in like 2009 and haven't felt the need to use anything else
>>
Rutracker
>>
MEGA
>>
Download your music.
>>
Spotify. It has most songs (yes it does miss a lot, but it has the most complete library compared to the other services)
>>
>>69521177
What is the utility of using any of these? Serious question. Streaming is useless, everything is already in my grasp.
>>
Pay for Spotify and use Google Music (free) for uploading everything spoot doesn't have

>>
>>69521492

>able to download/check out most albums on a whim
it's super comfortable compared to the alternatives. i'll never go back to moving music between my phone and pc and not always having acess to all my music.
>>
>>69521177
I use google play but not for streaming. It's just so I can upload music onto my phone easily
>>
>>69521571
>not having to find and download every single album you want to hear
Yeah, instead you have to find, buffer and stream every single album you want to hear
>constantly having acess to most music you like
I have access to most music I like right here on my hard drive
>able to download/check out most albums on a whim
I'm able to do that with rutracker and slseek

You can do that with spotify too, but not like you really have to since they have almost everything.

>>

Spotify lets you do this
>>

are you seriously implying that takes any effort or time

it's objectively faster then finding a torrent. you can't argue against this.

So do i, there's a save offline feature.

Objectively 5x faster on Spotify.

Spotify hands down.

This is a year and a half old but hey

Not that other guy, but I pay for spotify anyway
>>
>>69523140
And on this graph, it's not as bad as it looks if you consider spotify has 75 million users and pays $0.0011 per song, whereas Tidal has 0.5 (or 0.3) million and pays $0.007. Google Play is pretty high up there, but pretty bad for selection as some in this thread have said.
>>
>>69523182
>it's not as bad as it looks if you consider spotify has 75 million users and pays $0.0011 per song, whereas Tidal has 0.5 (or 0.3) million and pays $0.007
How is that relevant? If spotify's users migrated to tidal the artists would need an even lower percentage of plays. Spotify is garbage, there's no sugarcoating it.
>>
Google Play and sharethreads for anything that's missing works perfect for me
>>
>>69523182
meh, it's still pretty fucking shitty for all these giants to not give me the money I deserve, but hey.

>>

>>
>>69523182
>>69523217

That means an artist would make $82.5k if all 75 million people listened to at least 1 of their songs. I doubt that's happening for any of the artists on Spotify. Which means the artists are getting seriously fucked.
>>
>>69523254

Only if you're nearly deaf. BUT, I used to think that too until I started doing my own recording. MP3 sucks the life out of music. You can really hear the difference when it's something you created yourself. It's awful. Don't use MP3 if you don't have to.
>>
>>69523305
>That means an artist would make $82.5k if all 75 million people listened to at least 1 of their songs
And if the same people listened to them on tidal, they'd make a fuckload more. By just existing Spotify is diverting users from the more artist-friendly services and shafting the musicians.
>>
>>69523345

Nobody should be listening to anything for free. Advertisement based profiteering should be dead, but plebs and cheap cunts are feeding the machine.
>>
>>69523217
If Spotify's users migrated to Tidal, it's very likely artist payout would decrease in relation to new demand for artists on that platform. Part of the reason a smaller platform pays more is to incentivize people to move to it. A lot of the money a platform makes goes into acquiring IP to put on it.

For example, look at Netflix.
http://variety.com/2012/digital/news/disney-inks-exclusive-deal-with-netflix-1118063070/ They spent in the range of 100 million to 300 million to get access to Disney movies on its service for some duration.

You've got to spend money to make money, and Spotify has certainly done a lot of that. As can be argued, a lot more money is made by artists selling merchandise and live shows than albums, so free/semifree streaming of an artist's music to a potential userbase of 75 million is better than pressing 20k discs and selling them in brick and mortar stores when you consider that these people could become fans who pay for shows and merch.
>>
>>69521823
Spotify is missing a ton of stuff. Listen to more music.

http://www.digitaltrends.com/music/apple-music-vs-spotify/
Spotify has "more than 30 million" and Apple has 40 million.

Honestly I just signed up for a Tidal trial. I'll see how this goes.
>>
>>69523375
Yeah man, go ahead and charge 100 bucks for your debut album for your band that has a following of like one thousand followers on bandcamp. I mean after all, making a statement of "my art has great value" is far more important than getting your music out to as many people as possible and gaining a following.
>>
>>69523481

I'm not producing music. If I was, and was brand new... well... gee... I wonder if something like Bandcamp would be a good way to get started? I know some people are making good fucking money on Bandcamp. Things like that will get your heard, if you don't suck, people will buy.

nice leap faggot. maybe if I sold my album for 5 or 10 bux and a thousand people bought it. fuck, that's 5-10k for me. then word gets around that my shit is worth paying for.
>>
>>69523549

I would never put anything on there for free. Free is only an option. Putting something on there for free is like saying, "I don't believe in myself." You can offer clips/demos of songs. If people like, they will buy.
>>
>>69523473
does tidal have swans' full discog?
>>
First impressions of Tidal

Fonts rendered really poorly on Windows 10
Songs take a fair amount of time to buffer (I'm on a gigabit connection)
I like how much more barebones the interface is, reminds me of some foobar themes
Some things seem to be tagged poorly, but that just takes time (example tidal.com/artist/8080678 should be just KMFDM and the album is Hau Ruck
>>
>>69523592
Great, so you have al album on bandcamp that I can't even listen to and that costs like five bucks. With the millions of artists creating music each day, why don't you take a guess as to whether I'll risk wasting my money on it or not.

God, this buffering is so annoying. Even Spotify's highest quality buffers faster, I wonder if they went full retard and are giving me flacs, rather than high quality VBRs.

That's fine. I wouldn't expect to please everyone.

Now, if you did like it, but you're only not buying it because something else is free... then you're a pleb and/or cheap cunt.
>>
why the fuck doesn't Tidal make the window title the artist/album/song/something? It just says Tidal. There are basically no options to customize the interface.

Yeah because I'm actually going to get invested in the material of a band and become interested through 10 second snippets of their choruses. Are you fucking retarded? Jesus fucking Crhist, you are aware that such a thing as "the radio" exists, right?

>>69523217
I used to pirate 100% of my music, now I pay for spotify premium. Objectively artists are seeing more of my $ than they ever did. I'm broke as fuck so my $10/month is all I can swing. I'm sure many are in a similar boat. Beats torrenting.

FLAC actually isn't a meme format unless you're a casual. Mp3's can sound indistinguishable to FLAC, but only if they're encoded properly. FLAC removes the stress of poorly encoded mp3. If you own FLAC, you can re-encode it into any other format and be sure it was done correctly. For a while, some mp3 encoders had a bug that stripped high end. If you owned the FLAC, you could re encode when the bug was fixed. I encode my files differently depending on where I'm storing them, my phone, my hardrive, etc. You can only do that with FLAC.

I've listened to a fair amount of music on a number of formats, and the one I always find to be the best is vbr0. 320k mp3 has effectively the same sound quality, but with more peace of mind from filesize. If there were a high quality vbr format that had some level of redundancy baked in to the file, it would be the best file format. Safe against data loss and as large as is needed.
>>
>>69524490
Do you only listen to top 100 charts or something?

LOL. Read my mind. TPB has nothing worth downloading unless you're 15 and only like umph-tsk.
>>
>>69524556
oh nice, I usually just go with the presets that lame (the mp3 encoder tool) offers. usually do --preset extreme or insane. I doubt I'd be able to hear the difference between vbr0, 320, and those presets. The lame manual says vbr0 is better then either of those presets though! vbr is great imo though.
