>>69494735
It added some super sinister vibes to the soundtrack that go along nicely with the really dark undertones of the show. As a massive Twin Peaks fan I loved it and the new context the music was put in
Yo wassup
>>69494769
ok but laura palmer's theme for example, wasnt that already sinister?
>>69494890
Yeah I agree it was. But a lot of the other songs on the original soundtrack aren't.
Don't get me wrong, I think the original is much better (it is one of my favorite albums ever), but I loved hearing the songs that I know and love played in a much different, but still good way. That grammar was poor but hopefully you see my point

Life of Pablo is good, but Yeezy lost it. This album looses it's direction to easily, if it had any in the beggining. Maybe in the top 20, but not top 5 of the year.
>>69496041
Naaaah. Not really. The only thing he got right is that Nonagon is repetitive, but as it should be obvious to anyone that that's the fundamental concept of the album, I'm not going to give him any plaudits for that. 12 Bar Bruise is a vastly inferior record on every single level, from concept to execution. I love it, but to say that it's as good as Nonagon Infinity, let alone better, just shows how fucking DadRock this place has become.

>BEST YEAR EVER!!!
if you had broader horizons you'd realize 2016 has been a pretty standard year for music - enough all-time great albums to make a top 10-15, enough really good albums to round out a top 50 or so, and a bunch of other stuff that was worth a listen or two and helped pass the time between more major releases. just like every year of recorded musical history besides really, really major ones (((like 2015)))

im a massive jeff/bomb/asob/kudrow/-xl fan but this was probably one of his more boring releases. theres not many tracks that call you back to the album and is kind of a one album summary of his career but its all been slightly watered down. i dont blame him, hes been doing this for what like 15 years now? and this is easily his biggest album yet in terms of tours and also in general publicity and most of the listeners are first timers or heard we cool? so props to him but the album really isnt particularly great compared to his catalogue. still i guess compared to everything else this year (specifically rock records) its better than most but by a slim margin
>>69497763

Thats exactly why its good - the impact. Had the album been released without any relation to his death, the album would have been ordinary/below average.
If you take the lyrics of Blackstar for example, its clear that Bowie put tons of emotion into showing a message.

hell no. people were lauding it for the few days - a week or two - it was leaked before his death was announced. the jazz influence, the singing, the arrangements, that damn sax! it was already being called a stellar album. however, Bowie's demise did propel it to greater heights beyond the stratosphere. i still maintain it's the best album i've heard this year, alongside Cohen's You Want it Darker. i don't understand the praise for Kanye's new one, Death Grips, or Danny Brown.

>>69504304
I agree but wildflower deserves that too. A band that can disappear for a decade and a half, then return with one of the strongest albums of the year is fascinating to say the least. For example, take Pink Floyd's The Endless River, a band that was so well established could never make an album that lives up to its predecessors. But a band that sort of just lurked in the shadows coming out with an AOTY right after a 16 year hiatus? That's pretty fucking cool.

this is one of those albums where i think it's good on some objective level but it just does absolutely nothing for me
songwriting is good but i think they played it too safe, i enjoy it but i would never go out of my way to listen to it again.

These, Painting With and You Want It Darker are all excellent albums as well
It's been quite a year of loss in almost every sense, but in terms of music we've been gifted gems (deaths of artists notwithstanding)
>>69494882
Ayy my man
>>69500446
The whole album in particular.

Is Car Rest Headseat actually good, or just another one of those dull adult-contemporary masquerading as "indie" groups?

I just listened to this as my first Nick Cave record, and the production is really bothering me - anyone else have that issue?
>>69505656
not even. we maaay have 3 of the same top 10 albums.
>>69505789
>>69505855
I love Twin Fantasy and I think Will's label output is pretty damn good but then I'm 20. So in a few months I suppose I'll completely drop it all most likely.

>>69494569

>>69506363
Thanks cowboy
I am gonna give Wildflower a listen thanks Anons and Davids MEMEstar being 10/10 is honestly feeding into his death so its "NOT VALID"
>MFW Jcole might get album AOTY

>>69496249
not sure i'd call elseq "middle-of-the-road"
Haven't been on /mu/ much for a while, surprised that people dislike the new Bon Iver so much.
I've never been able to stand his music or understand why people liked it, but the track I heard off the album sounded at least less cloying and than his previous work
>>69506516
>BLACKstar being 10/10 is honestly feeding into his death so its "NOT VALID"
that argument is beyond invalid, mate. so much so it's damn near juvenile. as mentioned above, Blackstar was being lauded even before his death was announced. it really is a spectacular album. best of the year? for some. i see several albums on lists here i found downright terrible. can't really account for musical tastes is my reasoning, so to say one album is greater than another is not really saying much at all. hence, why threads like these are only good for recommendations.
street sects | end position was good.
>>69503846

Sorceress by Opeth was my favorite thid year. It's actually one of my favorite albums of all time, every song on it is fantastic.
>>69496212
>Implying Dream Theater is better than Opeth
fuckin kek
>>69507430
What album this?
>>69496706
Do you have a download of "We are KING"?
imo
>>69494419
I enjoyed maybe two songs. The rest of it is just...too bass less. It feels tinny and gave me a headache
>>69501793
Out of the stuff I have listened to this year, probably this or that danny brown album.
I also really enjoyed Meliora (yea yea, came out last year, just listened to it this year).
>>69505655
Just listen to I Look Like Shit, his best. imo.
>>69506739
Okay I can see how you can take it that way but everyone has their view on certain albums I just feel its a bit too far to call it a "AOTY" But like you said threads like this are only good for recommendations. I might give it another spin in a year or two.
Was there really any competition?
>>69500380

I laughed so much about this last night
probably one of the best singer songwriter albums this year
>>69492912
>>69505655
yeah i would just work backwards in his discography. make sure to check out his label Quoute Unquote Records, there's a lot of quality releases on there. look into all of his side projects. dont be afraid Goodbye Cool World. theres no way youre gonna read this
>>69496998

I blame public education
The normie levels in this thread are off the fucking charts. Same trash you see on the year-end lists from mainshit publications. Are you all fucking sacks of thoughtless meat that you gravitate towards the same exact albums? Truly sad. Not even joking when I say that 9/10 albums in this thread are total shit
>>69510259
I loved the fuck out of Cilvia Demo but this album was a bit of a disappointment for me.
This album literally made me sleepy.
>>69510396
sort of a weak year imo
this is still prob my fav of the year
>>69510528
>sort of a weak year imo
>has heard maybe 1% of all albums released this year and probably only popular ones highlighted by the media
i shiggy diggy
>>69510576
>has heard maybe 1% of all albums released this year
congratulations on describing literally everyone on earth.
There were thousands and thousands of albums released this year
>>69510643
that's my point. How can you say "sort of a weak year" when you've heard a tiny amount of albums? Saying "this is my favorite album from this year that I've heard" is fine but categorizing an entire year's worth of music releases as "weak" is pretty retarded
>>69510682
Did you miss the part where I said 'imo'
Obviously I meant specifically from my point of view you fucking autist.
>>69496258
That Ariana Grande album was garbaggio.
I say this as someone who unironically loved My Everything.
Hot album cover tho at least.
>>69492952
This tbfqh
>>69510703
so by "imo" you meant "from my extremely limited and admittedly retarded point of view" OK, I get it. That's what you meant to say. What you should have said is "I can't be bothered to find any decent music despite that I'm fucking swimming in music finding tools and resources, so it was a weak year for me in the sense that I'm a lazy entitled cunt who likes to make sweeping generalizations about the state of a creative medium I'm clearly unfamiliar with without ever putting forth the effort to try and change my idiotic perspective"

>I thought No More Shall We Part was a weaker Boatman's Call
Hm, really? I have to disagree a bit. Would you mind explaining why. Lyrically I think the Boatman's Call wins, but musically No More Shall We Part feels a lot stronger to me.
