While he's a little bit more enthusiastic about the record, I think that Fantano's review generally aligns with my thoughts. AML is definitely Glover's strongest record, as he is exploring more mature and interesting sounds and themes instead of relaying his Kanye Jr.-schtick.

That said, when you compare it to other PBRnB-hip-hop records, AML can come off a little flat. It sticks to a groove and it works, but I never feel like it takes any risks relative to Glover's peers.

Overall, a solid and enjoyable record.

I like California, but I can understand why people wouldn't. I think that it was a song for him to have some fun on an album that was pretty solid all around.

As someone who liked BTI (and Camp when I was in high school, I've since moved on), I think that this is by far his best music, and it makes his previous work look really immature.

I agree with Fandango that I want him to make more like this but that it sadly might not happen.
