Joke or masterpiece?
why not both
Neither of those things.
pretty pleasant if samey ambient record that happened to be ahead of its time

I'd say it's a joke and a clever concept. Not really masterpiece tier though.
>reed solo work
Joke
Jokester masterpiece
I'm pretty sure he made the album to piss off his label (I forgot why he wanted to piss them off though), so that makes the album a joke. However, I'm pretty sure this album also counts as early noise/ambient music, so that's interesting too. It's no masterpiece though. idk about any of this, don't quote me on it
iggy pop: hey lou, I've been working on these tracks... could you give me some feedback?
lou reed: say no more
I've listened to that album 20+ times in it's entirety and hundreds for the first track alone
Love it desu and there's nothing else which is similar to it. Beautiful and profound. Don't really give a fuck whether it was a joke.
I can imagine the creation of this album and how many drugs he has taken, this time drugs couldn't help to create a masterpiece. FYI to people saying this is ahead of his time, that's a cliché thing to say, by 1975 you already had a lot of avant garde music played with synths. I respect Lou reed a lot, but this is just conceptual bullshit, coming from someone who could bring the best of both worlds
