post your kits, recordings, what you're working on, anything

I just got a new Meinl 20'' extra dry crash from mycymbal.com. Sounds so trashy and buttery smooth at the same time. Just sits in the mix perfectly and sounds musical in any context.

I'm working on transitioning cleanly between rudiments. Also general timekeeping with metronome exercises like having it count on the upbeats and cutting the metronome tempo to a quarter of what I'm playing.

I'm getting the purdie shuffle down somewhat it's just perfecting dynamics and loosening up.. dynamics dynamics dynamics are everything!

Can't be bothered with a pic but I've owned a TD11KV for a few months now. Really happy with the EQ and extent of other customization, can get it sounding really good. Gonna order a second crash pad in time for christmas.

Only complaint is the hi-hat feels like utter shit.

get a real proper hi hat stand and an electronic hi hat top/bottom pad instead of the second crash

will feel much better than utter shit

I miss playing drums. My set is halfway across the country at my parents house.

Minimal sets are best.
Avedis 13" quick beat hi hats
a tight snare
1 tom
jazz kick drum
1 Zildjian 20" ride
smallest sticks you can buy

I'll play any style with that set

see I need the fattest heaviest sticks. I use vic firth 2b with wood tip. Yeah it might be louder in general but it feels way more comfortable to play fast with heavier sticks imo

that kit sounds sweet though. I love smaller 18'' kick drums and the main snare is always gotta be tight

The best part is I put it together with less than $500 just by buying stuff off of my drummer friends. I'm a pianist and have never formally studied drums at all, but I used to have a great time just putting on whatever albums happened to be laying around the house and drumming to it. Steely Dan, Herbie Hancock, Yes, James Brown, Fall Out Boy, broadway musical soundtracks. It's always a fun challenge just to put stuff on and try and match what's going on in the music.

Maybe someday I can live in a house and put my set back together.

Hadn't considered that, may well do.

The cymbal pads on e-kits aren't particularly good anyway, but yeah the hi-hat is terrible. One of the first things I had to do was set its sensitivity to max.

>to play fast with heavier sticks
I knew there would be a difference
I'm going to have to get down with this, it's no good me not knowing things
>>
>>69454935
There isn't much difference, it's personal preference

Big band drummers sometimes roll just as fast and play just as hard as heavy metal drummers yet favour As
>>
>>69453492
is that a bass drum twin peddle?
>>
>>69455226
What are good makes? I find it hard to believe there isn't much difference
>>
>>69455239
yes, it's a Yamaha Direct drive aka Flying Dragons
>>
man i'm garbage
i try to do rudiments but i can never play them for more than a few bars.
whenever i try to play in time w/o a click, i end up fucking up.

i have so much fun playing along to songs i enjoy though so i keep playing lol
>>
>>69455394
Are they 'good'?
>>

>I use vic firth 2b with wood tip
vic firth 2b wood tip
>>
>>69453845
>a tight snare
What is a snare? Why is it tight?
>>
Jazz drummers don't need snares
