Being completely honest here, I like Touched more than Sometimes. The latter sounds like this brief sound experiment that evokes a distorted VHS or some shit and gets out before it overstays its welcome, while the latter kills the flow the album has going up to that point and sounds more like a JAMC tribute than anything on the level of ambition of the other songs. It's fine on its own but in the context of Loveless as an album I do think Sometimes is the weakest song there.

Maybe I've just worn out my dopamine receptors, but When You Sleep does nothing for me. I find the main guitar melody to be kinda annoying, and the drums too bright sounding. It's the most ordinary track on an otherwise extraordinary album.

Yep. The couplet that was being referred to was:

At first glance, it looks dumb, but it's actually slightly genius when you consider that they're two different words. Crafty wordplay.
Additionally, consider that the original lyrics did make more sense - the song was originally called Walpurgis (after Walpurgis Night, or Walpurgisnacht) and was actually about witches and demons instead of being a general anti-war song that used witches and demons as metaphor.

But the record company didn't like that because it was too "demonic" (not sure what else you'd expect from a band called Black Sabbath but whatever), and now we have War Pigs - a contracted Walpurgis. If you'd like to give the original a listen:

Personally, I find the new lyrics a lot better, but peering into the history of the song gives the opening couplet a bit more context and justifies masses/masses.


If you couldn't tell, War Pigs is one of my favorite songs.
