I have the opportunity to join a pop-punk band with a female vocalist, kinda like Paramore, or join a heavier one where the singer can scream and it's heavy alt-rock/metalcore with a keyboardist too
The pop-punk genre is coming to a dead end now imo, the glory days of the 2000s are over.
Of course I'd enjoy playing with the 1st band but if no one's coming to our shows what's the point? Music has to be shared
What do you think? What band should I choose to play in? ( I play guitar)
I feel that pop punk bands have been sprouting up a lot more frequently, but not enough of them are really bringing anything new to the table. As someone who grew up with Blink-182 before their self titled, and listened to all the 2000's pop punk, I just feel that a lot of the music they make sounds similar to Blink, or New Found Glory or whatever.
Well you're gonna shine more in the second band and I agree pop-punk is dead, but is it really metalcore? Like, more Highly Suspect or Beartooth?

The 2nd band is not complete yet actually (just vocalist + keyboardist) and the vocalist is pretty open to suggestions so I really can give it the direction I want.
He's into heavier bands like Chelsea Grin and Attila but I talked to him about a softer kind of metal like Bring me the horizon : Sempiternal/That's the spirit and he likes it so it's probably what we would sound like
+thanks for making me discover Highly Suspect, it sounds dope
Pretty much every pop-punk song has already been written, and most of it isn't very good. I feel like it is too narrowly defined as a genre to be more than a short-living trend.
That being said, some of the earliest music I bought as a kid was sum-41, blink 182, offspring, simple plan

But the best album of the year is pop punk anon.

Pop punk was plenty popular around 2012.
Bands like Man overboard, The Story so far, Neck deep.
Most pop-punk has been done. Its mostly power-chords, it gets boring quick. Easycore was a nice change of pace w/ synths.
I notice every female-fronted band always sounds like paramore.

didn't you make this thread the other day?
weren't you told to not box yourself into a genre?
why did you make another thread?

You'll suck regardless of your choice

Pick one:
1. either you join a band with a female vocalist which is always a plus but in a genre with very low substance
2. or you join a band with a testosterone overdose active where only manchildren listen to.
Yeah, pop-punk is dying, but there will always be people coming to shows with a frontwoman. It's just more interesting. So if you care about the come-up to your shows, pick the pop-punk band. You can always try to persuade the pop-punk band to try other routes regarding genres and style.

Didn't know bands with a frontwoman were more popular

not necessarily, but i just feel like rockcrowds flock more easily to bands with women in them if they're not familiar with the actual music of the band. After all, we are talking about the most attractive sex in both the eyes of men and women.
