Every genre of music that has broken through has a limited period of time when the golden records of that genre are made. After that the genre is diluted by mediocrity and talented musicians drift to greener pastures. Let's get a civilized discustion rolling regarding the golden eras of certain well known genres.

The memes have empowered it to a point where it's an unholy god monster that can survive any form of mutilation.

As a big fan of 2000-10 indie rock, i still find it's really weird how that style died almost completely. I know it's not ok to say this, but i think this time was so obvious the manipulation made by large corporations, in this case, the almighty 2010's pitchfork. Good thing it's losing credibility

I wanna say like 1994-2008 was like the best era of hip hop. There are still some great artists but the early-mid 2000s was soooooooo tight. Pic very related

I think we're in a golden age for techno right now desu

pre 94 is definetly 'golden era' but it does feel dated. i find interesting you'd include all the way up to 2008 - i think a lot of hip hop heads hated the mid 2000's
Can you give me some examples of good hip hop from that time? cheers

I mean, this is totally personal opinion but I love the "bling bling" era of hip hop. I think there was a return to the crazy personalities that started hip hop. There was a lot of character in this era of hip hop. Soulja Boy, Chamillionaire, Ja Rule, Cam'ron, etc. It seems like hip hop artists currently have the same clothes, style, etc. Look at Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Yachty, Rae Shremmard. I know this is oversimplifying. I'm not one of those people that "hates" new rap, but I really miss the 2000s rap. I know old heads hate it.
For instance, I think this is one of the best music videos ever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSipXuqHt40

Also, look at R. Kelly's trapped in the closet. So unique. Hip hop is way too mainstream right now for well known artists to take risks like that. And I will say there are a lot of "personalities" in hip hop currently. Kanye, Drake, 2chainz, Rick Ross, etc are all pretty unique in their own personalities but it feels different now. Especially with all the corporate sponsorship stuff, like Beats by Dre in every Nicki Minaj music video. Idk. Just my two cents. I know a lot of people will disagree.
