Post an artist/album and anons will rate it

I'll start: NIN Downward Spiral

Few albums better summarize the spirit of the 1990s than The Downward Spiral (1994). Each song is both a battlefield for the highest possible density of truculent sound effects and a largely-autobiographical ode-psychodrama. The thundering polyrhytms, the chaotic and cacophonous orgies, the grotesque "danse macabres", the chamber blues pieces, the harsh counterpoints, the mournful melodies were carefully assembled to deliver the sense of a man without a past or a present or a future, a man who was a pure abstraction in search of meaning, pure form in search of content.
8.5/10

This Opie. Fucking love the downward spiral. 8.5 or a solid 9 would do.

Incredible production that refuses to sit still in any one realm or genre, screaming and broken, and yet never becoming lost in its own noise or distortion, still maintaining the synth-pop roots originally heard on PRETTY HATE MACHINE.

Reznor's lyrics, however, tend to eat themselves alive, dated awkwardly from both the era and his personal mantras, especially notable when paired next to the timeless instrumentation.

Four albums to keep it interesting.

>>69420186
7/10

My Ass Is On Fire is 10/10, but the rest of the album is 4-7/10; in my opinion California is more consistently good, and easily a 8-9/10 depending on my mood.

>>69420139
8/10.

Unpopular opinion: Year Zero is, if not his best, certainly his most interesting album.

magnolia is such a beautiful album.

His whole discography is great.

Inspired me to start writing poetry, and I'm getting a guitar when I've saved up a bit of money and maybe making something in the future. Really moving stuff.

you might like Ruins. very sad and fragile, kind of reminscent of Molina.
>>
>>69420139
One of my personal 10/10s, practically changed my life when I first heard it freshman year of high school.

>>69420442
9/10, paved the way for Merriweather Post Pavilion while still remaining a unique and interesting album in its own right
>>
>>69422935
I'll check it out, thanks.

literally the edgiest album ive ever heard, not bad though

>>69420297
honestly havent heard it in a while, remember enjoying it though (i know this is the worst review ever)

>>69420442
very entry level but holds a special place in my heart for that exact reason. some 10/10 tracks, some 0/10 tracks
>>
>>69423121
What would you say are the 0/10 tracks on SJ? I personally like every song and can't figure out which ones you might be referring to
>>
>>69420729
Do it right now, from beginning to end
>>
>>69423160
okay so admittedly 0/10 was an exageration, but i really dislike unsolved mysteries, and chores isn't great either
>>
>>69422935
It's >>69422960, so far so good. Got me into a place I needed to go, even though I can't really make out the lyrics. It's melancholic -- I like melancholic. Melancholic music is sad without being depressing. Molina and Will Oldham/Bonnie 'Prince' Billy fill a good niche for me in being sad but not depressing; always welcome to have more.
