It's also usually extroverted music. What I mean by that is that rap is rarely introspective and often comes off as awkward sounding when it is. Not all the time though. IMO a lot of the best rappers are very introspective but they do it through story telling and by describing their actions you get a sense for how they feel and think.

i like to think of it similarly to "genre fiction" like sci fi, detective pulp, fantasy in the sense that the artist works with a set framework of certain themes and tropes, but the way that they use it is completely individual
