I've been listening to a lot of ambient and generally instrumental music lately and through a jamming session with some friends, I want to try and get into making electronic music as well.
For example, from Ghosts I-IV by NIN:

Where the fuck do I start? How does the process go, which instruments do I use and how can I experiment with stuff like this? Obviously not as good and full-fledged as Trent Reznor itself makes it, but a start.
Where do I go from here? I have 0 musical experience besides playing flute as a kid.
Eat lotsa sphagetti

I'm looking for some more serious input, but thanks.

download ableton live and watch all the tutorials
no equipment needed besides a laptop/pc
>>69393407
Seriously, like, no pedals, synths, whatever?
>>69393416
naw ur gucci, all good DAWs have presets that can be operated with a midi controller or even your keyboard if youre that strapped
>>69393444
So I begin with getting Ableton from somewhere, alright. Anything I should add to it? Like an Ableton controller, or a midi controller, then?

id recommend a cheap AKAI controller like the MPK mini
>>69393482
Thanks. Where do I go from there?
>>69393504
learning how to use ableton and then watching tutorials on everything electronic.
youtube has tons of it

Record yourself playing on the flute and slow it the fuck down. Now you have ambient music.

I'd start learning basic keyboard skills, learn major/minor scales, basic chords, and seventh chords, after that just fuck around with sounds and timbres, then try to sample some stuff
Here's something I made when with an AKAI mini after I used an arpeggiator, took like 20 mins and two chords: https://soundcloud.com/djkillinit/tweny

Thanks a lot. I'm gonna take an online class on music theory so that seems like a good place to start with I guess. Gonna try and see where I can get Ableton from.
Thanks a lot guys, appreciate it

That one track wasn't bad, but why do the rest of your SC tracks have such God-awful mixing and production?
