An experiment in a pen-and-paper composing general, made for all the theory autists
Post with the intent on discussing composition. And remember, this is NOT /classical/. Any music, such as jazz, is acceptable.
Post clyps and accompanying notation so we can accurately critique your composing from a theory perspective

So uh, I realised that you know, given a chord, say F , Ab , B and D, it's a diminished chord isn't it?
Am I wrong if I just treat it as G7b9? I kind of realised that after playing jazz I just start treating every thing as alterations of the V7..
fuck theory
could you still make good music without your precious theory? no
so which one of us is really talented, hmm?
>>69375191
Well here is the thing, any fully diminished 7th chord can re-interpreted to be an inversion (due to the fact that it's all minor thirds) of ANOTHER dim7 chord. So you're not wrong. In fact, this is done all the time to quickly modulate from one key to another without much fuss.
>>69375398
put more effort into it next time bud
>>69375191
>>69375416
Whoops, kind of misread that.
You are only wrong in interpreting that as a G7b9 IF the context does not follow that logically. i.e., what is the function of the re-interpreted G7b9? Is it a dominant function?
>>69375416
Not an argument.
>>69375473
But what if all the music I enjoy and want to imitate are created by people who knew theory?
>>69375398
The theory that Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and Mahler studied is the same.
low quality bait
>>69375617
Then you're stuck in an echo chamber.
>>69375670
how do i leave?
>>69375751
Listen to this and call me in the morning.
>>69375456
It acts as a diminished chord, purely as a passing chord device..
>>69375751
study more theory and listen to different music

music theory is founded upon subjective "muh it sounds good" claims from some guy who died already 600 years ago. espousing it today to the ignorance of hunderds of years of musical development - that has already moved past its ancient and limited applications - is no more different than actually being so out of touch you'd in the same breath believe that bush built the pyramids and ancient romands did 9/11
