Never have been one for Fall Out Boy, even the old stuff, Is A Real Boy is one of the only Pop Punk/Emo Pop albums I really like (aside from some MCR which is likely pure nostalgia) but Is A Real Boy remains one of my favorite albums.

this is my most listened to album of all time, as are Say Anything as my most listened to artist of all time.

also pic related. not just /mu/, nobody in the world likes this album but me it seems
>>
>>69362900
Mostly indifferent now I think. I've only been here for arounf 7 months now and it just seems fine. It was hyped up to impossible standards, so new /mu/ doesn't think much of it but memes.
>>
>>69362900
I love it, honestly

I think it has kind of become an over-used inside joke for /mu/, but unironically, I like it a lot. I remember the first time someone played "King of Carrot Flowers Pt. 2" I started laughing uncontrollably because I thought it was terrible. Over time, I've realized I was an idiot, and it's actually a really interesting album.

Maybe not the holy grail, but it's pretty damn good
>>
>>69363427
while i agree that jeffery is easily the best album of the decade, chance 3 and lil boat were trash.
>>
>>69363439
Allentown might be my favorite Joel song period, besides Vienna. Laura is god-tier, and Where's the Orchestra? is fantastic too.
I'm more fond of Goodnight Saigon now because I went to a Joel concert last year and he had a bunch of Vietnam vets on stage singing the chorus and it was great.
>>
>>69363500
I abso-fucking-lutely adore this album, but it's too meme'd on this board to talk about seriously anymore. I hope I'm not alone on this.
Guess we'll have to wait and see if the new album is worth memeing to death to have a serious conversation about ITAOTS again.
>>
>>69363460
Is A Real Boy is my most listened album on last.fm anyways, probably not of all time I've probably heard a couple records more but very very few. Never really gotten into their other stuff, tried it a while back, but nothing struck me like Is A Real Boy did. Should I give them another chance? If so, what albums should I try and which should I avoid at all costs?
>>
>>69362773
I feel like Say Anything is a guilty pleasure for everyone /mu/ people just dont wanna admit it.
>>
>>69363427
I looooved Jeffery. Next level thugga
>>
>>69363716
Maybe you're right, Is A Real Boy actually (barely) makes it into the top 10,000 albums on RateYourMusic, now that I've bothered to check. A bit surprised. Alive With The Glory Of Love is in the top 5,000 singles as well.

>>
>>69363691
started browsing /mu/ back in like, what, 2011? back then it had like instantly become my favorite album, all memes aside. I was completely obsessed, easily listened to it over 1000 times from 2011 to now and I think i've only listened to it 5 times in full since I had the pleasure of seeing them live in early 2014. Also, new album, huh? Interesting.
>>
>>69363833
Whelp now I'm in the mood to listen to this album again.
No, I always enjoyed it, but didn't necessarily think it was too special until I realized you just kinda have to let the vets have it as their own anthem because there's nothing else like it. But damn that performance was sweet as hell.

nah chance had some really great songs (all we got, no problems, same drugs, mixtape) even if it had some boring stuff (summer friends, angels)

but yeah jeffery was next level, give lil yachty another chance cuz shit's still fun even if his ad-lib game is a joke compared to thugger

>>69363736
and people on /mu/ will just get mad because a trap album by an androgynous black artist ended up being a classic. barely even come to /mu/ because people here are genereally so anti-fun
>>
>>69363907
Funny enough I'm re-listening to Laura as we speak.

And yeah I can understand that. What else did he play during the concert?
>>
>>69363858
I haven't even been on /mu/ for a year and it's already had a huge impact on me. It's my go-to album for when I'm not in the mood to listen or sing to anything else.
But I'm jealous. Seeing them live would be so sweet.
And yeah, it's a double album. I think it's supposed to be released sometime next year.

Just his hits for the most part (unfortunately not Vienna though). The man has such a huge presence though. Easily my favorite concert I've been to in my short life. And I've seen Brian Wilson and Paul McCartney.
>>
>>69364030
fucking kek

>>69364006
yeah man honestly the initial impact it had on me was the strongest any piece of art has ever had on me in my life, even though I find it hard to listen to much anymore (it's practically white noise at this point) I still have a very profound respect for it. It really is like no other album.

Also, i looked up the album thing, and although it seems to just be a rumor, I can't help but get stoked over shit like this, kind of a hype beast even when it is just rumors we're talking about. Let's hope for the best!
>>
>>69363919
i can't tell if it's a good album or if it's just nostalgia
>>
>>69363919
I think most everyone on this board at least agrees Jesus Of Suburbia is good, no? Because the whole album is not great from start to finish, but when it's good it's pretty damn good. Still prefer Dookie and even Nimrod or Insomniac, more consistent albums from start to finish I suppose.
>>
>>69364094
I have yet to go to a concert, unfortunately.

I was HOPING to go to a David Bowie concert one day but....look what happened.

I still have a chance with Bjork. She seems amazing live (I have 3 of her live DVDs)
>>
>>69363711
Nothing is as good
Self titled and in defence are hit and miss, 17 coked up and speeding is great

Two tongues has a similar vibe to IaRB on the self titled but it's a bit hit and miss as well. Some of the songs are really good though

Go to weatherbox's albums "flies In all directions" and to an extent "American art" for similar music to "Is A Real Boy."
>>
>>69364191
>nothing is as good
sadly this seems to be the case, fuck, 12 years later and no one has stepped up to the plate to release another pop punk/emo pop masterpiece, what a shame

I'll check out those other two Say Anything albums ASAP and I'm downloading the Weatherbox albums right now. I heard 17 Coked Up And Speeding when the new album dropped and liked it but heard it was the only good song on the record so I never actually sat through the rest.

also, "pretentious" is not a valid criticism
>>
>>69364308
literally the criticisms I seen thrown at ITAOTS are criticisms i never see for any other album, it's ridiculous, people REALLY don't wanna like it. "pretentious" and "generic" being used to describe the same album, like, what?
>>
>>69364308
jeffery is 100x better than itaots
>>
>>69364269
Honestly go for two tongues instead of the self titled at least. Some of my top tracks are are "Wowee Zowee," "crawl," "If I could make you," and "silly game."

The weakest part of the two tongues record is the lyrics, unfortunately.

As for "american art," songs that stood out to me are "the clearing," and "tripping the life fantastic"
>>
>>69364617
The Clearing is the best track so far, yeah. Enjoying it a decent amount, thanks for the rec. I'll check out the other Say Anything shit probably tomorrow.
>>
>>69364173
Dude, same about Bowie. Never got into Bjork, but it seems we have similar tastes, so I guess I'll check her stuff out.
>>
>>69364837
Start with Homogenic or Vespertine. Those are her best for me, personally.
>>
>>69364128
Not so much of a rumor than it's all but confirmed. Mangum is selling drawings online with messages that spell out "DOUBLE ALBUM," so yeah, can't wait!

>>
>>69364906
Kind of strange to think he waited 20 years, but I guess it makes sense considering (ironically) he's kind of striking while the iron is hot in 2016 when he wouldn't have been had he released it shortly after the initial release of Aeroplane. Very excited!

I doubt any Metal fag on this board is willing to admit this Cradle of Filth albums is GOAT (Dusk at her embrace too); too bad for them, CATB is really fun
>>
>>69364480
I don't really think it's either of those, but the terms aren't mutually exclusive. If something is incredibly generic but also has a 'holier than thou' attitude, it's very easy to hate, because it thinks its better than you while being mediocre.
>>
>>69365314
but does ITAOTS even have a holier than thou attitude? Jeff seems like a super modest guy, he just writes about some weird fucking love songs. I mean, for all intents and purposes, ITAOTS is 100% a pop album.

well to be fair every review on RYM is either .5/5 2.5/5 or 5/5 like everyone seems to have exteme hate, love, or indifference for it, and I do see people here say it's pretty insufferable, but I also see people like in this thread agreeing with me that it's great so yeah I probably underestimated it

>>69362773
YES. red cat/ yellow cat is a banger. Say Anything is a big guilty pleasure for me.
>>
>>69362773
Why do people call this a guilty pleasure? It's actually surprisingly mature. I've been a fan of this band since elementary school btw. I haven't listened to them in probably 2 years but I loved them unconditionally since the first time I heard The Writhing South while sharing my buddy's ipod on the bus home.
>>
>>69362836
I liked this album as soon as I actually bothered to listen to it. Now I can't sit through it, it's just boring to me because I listened to it so many times. Is there a term for this?

I think this effect made me autistic about music. Some albums I just don't listen to because I enjoy them so much I can't stand having this happen to them, so I wait months before listening to them again.
>>
>>69362773
Is a Real Boy is one my favorite albums of all time. I feel like that Say Anything, Taking Back Sunday, Saves the Day, Brand New camp have been that intersection between pop punk and emo at its fullest potential. There's a reason most young emo bands cite them as influences and not a band like Fall Out Boy or Panic at the Disco or something. They have some a level of staying power. It's the music that you listened to in high school and can return to at a later age and still appreciate.

Listening to this right now. Every time this band get mentioned there's always mentions that they were better as a post-hardcore band and disregard everything else. Disagree. They were an interesting post-hardcore band, I'll give them that, but they truly shined doing glam rock. Eric Nally is a fucking one in a million frontman and I'm still butthurt it took a fucking Macklemore song for the world to notice him. Foxy Shazam never got enough appreciation when they were together considering the fact that they had one of the best live shows out of any rock band.

>>
>>69362773
This actually was the album that got me into independent music. I listened to a lot of dadrock/metal bands until I stumbled across this in 8th grade and it pretty much completely changed my life. Listening to it makes me super fucking nostalgic for those days.

Later in college, my roommate discovered the album for the first time and played it a shit ton, so it became a defining album of college for me as well. It's one of those albums that always makes me feel good whenever I listen to it -- it's always as good as I remember, it always makes me feel the way I remember feeling when I first heard it. It stands well above every other record in it's genre and era.

I like it because
>clean and grandiose production as expected from Dre
>good sampling variety, including gospel music, French classical,Thai music, Turkish music, and Montenegro music
>good variety of beats, ranging from traditional Dre production using thise samples to more modern-sounding trap-influenced beats; some tracks even have a complete beat change within the track, something Dre doesn't really do
>great outro to Dre's solo career in the form of the closing trumpet solo
>has pretty good bangers in the form of Issues, One Shot One Kill, and Talking To My Diary
>album has more topical, personal, and retrospective subject matter rather than the more traditional gangsta stuff Dre used to rap about; Dre also sounds more enthusiastic in his delivery than in his other projects imo
>topical subject matter relating to Dre and gapless transitioning result in what is probably his most cohesive work despite the variability in beats
>less cringeworthy lyrics overall than 2001
>features are generally pretty good; Anderson .Paak is the new and better Hittman, The Game goes nuts on his track, Kendrick is good as usual, Snoop, Ice Cube, and Xzibit deliver confident, self-assured verses that sound awesome, Eminem's verse is a nice throwback to the old him while still showing his knack for rhyming and wordplay, and the newer Aftermath rappers show promise

It may not be particularly groundbreaking, but all these things make this a better album as a whole than 2001 and as good as The Chronic to me. Plus, it's pitched as a soundtrack album to Compton, so it's clear that Dre wasn't going for an album of anthemic bangers this time around. But no one else here seems to like it.
