An experiment in a pen-and-paper composing general, made for all the theory autists
Post with the intent on discussing composition. And remember, this is NOT /classical/. Any music, such as jazz, is acceptable.
Post clyps and accompanying notation so we can accurately critique your composing from a theory perspective

Whoa, shit. You sure it should be in 4/8?
Too busy to listen to it right now, sorry.
>>69344980
Listen to lots of music from the genre you want to improvise in. Know your theory, come up with a huge vocabulary of harmony that can be employed at any time when you improvise.. know a lot about theory
Just caught it

music theory?
haha no thanks it limits ur creativity and makes songs machine like :^)
how do I write like strauss?
I just started listening to him and now I won't get past my writers block until I can emulate his music
>>69352337
Richard? Or one of the many Johanns?
>>69352127
Creativity and knowledge are separate. Knowledge allows your creativity more options.
>>69352337
study his scores. Problem with Strauss is he really knows his shit. absolute master contrapuntalist and orchestrator. Use lots of chromaticism, lush colors in the orchestra, know your 7th 9th and 13th chords and their inversions, and how to write around them.

typical theory fag, fuck off nerd go read some scales music isnt math
>>69353355
>music isnt math
thats pretty ignorant m8. Music is a science and an art. If you learn the science, you can make great art, the same way great painters study anatomy, perspective, composition, how oil paints work and how to correctly layer a painting on canvas so it will last hundreds of years.
The basic skills give your natural creativity more options and more finesse. Otherwise you're just stuck with "this sounds good" and dont really know where else to go - struggle to develop.
Or maybe I should use words you can relate to:
typical popular music fag, fuck off pleb and go listen to some taylor swift. Music isn't marketing.
