[clears throat] Dubstep is trip hops little brother. As aforementioned, it's usually sonically amateurish which is kinda part of its charm like jungle or digital hardcore. For a the best example I'm aware of Id recommend Skream's self titled album. I'm in the minority, I have no patience for Burial. It's characterized by very low sub bass "wobbles" that 80% of speakers won't reproduce correctly, so without a serious audio system or studio monitor headphones I wouldn't even consider trying to listen to it.

Brostep was fun while it lasted. The big difference is rather than barely audible low frequencies they use shrill mid range wobbles. The obnoxious gimmick swallowed electronic music whole, by the end of 2012 there were Muse brostep songs. I can't tolerate Skrillex, Aphex Twin called his material "pop music". For a decent example is point to the instrumentals on Excision's X Rated, outside of that Techdiff, The Flashbulb, Autechre and Infected Mushroom got great results mixing the brostep sound with IDM.
