So let me get this straight.

Rabit rips the song directly from commodore 64 game "Last Ninja 2" and plonks some organ noises over it.

A year later Burial takes the rabit song and lays some vinyl crackles over it.

This is how we make music now?
>>
>>69334620
Young Death is actually gorgeous.

>>69335831
he used to at least put really amazing drums over them. this is just a copy paste job.
>>
>I don’t find melodies catchy, I find drums catchy. When you have a bassline in your head for a day, you’re fucked. You can’t think. Big sub slugs. I get them a lot. Because I work with waves I can write them down.

>There’s no ‘musicianship’ in my sound, that’s the enemy of my tunes. Fuck Rhodes chords, fuck that noodle stuff. There’s been a lot of times when producers I’ve liked have gone all ‘musician’ on me and just produced shit, not underground.

some emo interview he did around the time untrue came out
>>
Seems like he finally finished playing dark souls to churn out two songs.

Bought it without even listening first. I get so fucking giddy when a burial EP is released.
>>
>it's excellent
>everybody hates it
I don't understand
>>
>>69336390
because it's Burial - a living meme! He could released an album of only white noise and everyone here would buy it.
>>
>>69336390
I love it but I love everything he's ever released so I can totally see why people would hate it
>>
Good stuff. Nice dark atmosphere as always.
>>
>>69336390
honestly, all jesting aside, it's just a really average burial release. this still makes it better than most music, but it's really disconcerting how he's been creatively dry for over 4 years now. i mean, truant was a cut/paste job of random samples with no real musical structure to cling to, rival dealer sounded like he was trying to make a soundtrack to The Snowman, temple sleeper sounded like some prodigy knockoff he made in Music on the PS1, and the less we say about his collab with Zomby, the better. Now we have this... more cut and paste samples with vinyl crackle. I dunno, maybe i'm just older and grumpier now, but his career post-Kindred (which was excellent) has just been one huge nose-dive. i used to get genuinely excited for his stuff, but now i go into every record expecting disappointment. quite sad really
>>
yeah, he still got "it"
>>
>>69336515
Truant was still really good though and Rough Sleeper is one of his best songs ever.
>>
>>69336515
rival dealer was ahead of its time. Listening to come down to us now, and letting it burn for a couple of years i can honestly say it's one of his best, if not his best track
>>
>>69336531
The first 4 mins of Rough Sleeper are so good. He should have just cut the track there. He's got this really weird mindframe of trying to cram in multiple ideas, instead of just concentrating on making short, interesting tunes, like he did for his first albums/ep's etc...
>>
second song sounds like an Arca ripoff
burial is a hack now
>>
>>69336551
but Rough Sleeper literally becomes amazing at 4 minutes in
>>
>>69336551
a common problem with songwriting is getting stuck in an 8bar loop or "verse hell" where you create a verse, but you don't know how to proceed because you got your idea out and you've said all that's to be said, so where do you go from there? I bet he has no problem creating short songs, but can't finish them properly so he just mashes a bunch of them together. I don't mind this at all, 13 minutes of stuff is burial's head is just as enjoyable
>>
>>69336546
it's just too cheesy. it's the one review i always remember from the melon himself, the needle drop and he absolutely nailed it with his criticism. the vocals are terrible and it tries to do this grand, emotional gesture, but falls completely on its backside with the execution.

burial is best when he strips it back and makes simple tunes, with a good vocal hook, pads, basslines and breaks. even his ambient stuff has dropped off considerably in quality since his album days, for the same reasons. at first i thought he was just trying to avoid sample license issues, hence why his vocals have got increasingly more retarded, but after ripping off that last ninja 2/tearz sample for the new record, even that is unlikely.
>>
>>69336636
Everyone now in the underground is making sappy and saccharine songs with really great beats. Burial just did it before it was cool, and got derided for it. Happens with every brilliant person. People don't like things that stray too much from what they are use to.
>>
>>69336546
I love Rival Dealer and Hiders but I still think Come Down to Us is pretty hideous
>>
>>69336680
Nobody is making tunes like Come Down To Us in the "underground" lol. That tune was just embarrassing and Burial lost a lot of ears after that nonsense.
>>
when's he going to finish Feral Witchchild?
>>
will you ever accept the fact that people like different things? arguing about such subjective thing is nonsense.

I'm pretty disappointed. This is the first (solo) Burial release I've been underwhelmed by. People used to talk about how some of his previous EPs lacked structure and flow, and seemed to be a bunch of ideas just mashed together. I never got that feeling before, but this new EP seems to be just that.

also not sure about his move into more synths. they lack the vaguely warm, organic feel of his old music. and where are the funky drumzzzzz

i mean, at this point if he were to put out more tracks in the vein of "pirates" or w/e then that would actually feel more refreshing. like go back to ur roots, m8. it might be a retread but it's better than the these ambient, boring af retreads.

Because they don't know anything about electronic music, essentially.

>I was beginning to think we'd heard the last from Burial, the most reclusive genius electronic music has ever known, and when I read that a new single of his had turned up unannounced in a Toronto record shop the first word that came into my head was "hoax". I've never been so glad I was wrong in my life and when I heard that trademark sibilance of needle on scratched groove that invariably provides the backdrop to some unimaginably strange yet soothing, neo-impressionist wonder, my eyes began to well up with tears. As with Aphex Twin, the only other artist in the field whose work can genuinely be termed non-genre-specific, "Young Death" and "Nightmarket" are so far removed from the dubstep continuum the majority of lazy, unimaginative hacks were forever trying to shoehorn him into, even after "Untrue" broke the downward-plunging jaw of everyone who listened to it for the first time, this is simply a Burial record. I can think of several well-known and respected (not by me I hasten to add) music journals who will slate this record. They're the same ones who were co-conspirators in the scandalously shameful yet successful con trick that duped 99% of the record-buying public into believing Oasis were the best British band since the Beatles, this despite the Gallagher brothers claiming to be inspired by them, yet so obviously misunderstanding them to a similar degree as Charles Manson did.

It's Blackdown's blog. There's zero question it's him.

Also, when I saw Blackdown a few months ago, he played what I presumed to be unreleased Burial. Couldn't tell you what track it was, though. It might have been his Crackle Blues remix or some odd thing, but it was definitely Burial and not something I recall hearing before.
