I always found Tankard as part of the big four of German thrash to be really fucking weird.

Like, we have Assassin, Protector, Living Death, Mekong Delta and Holy Moses among others to choose, yet everyone picks fucking Tankard.

Nothing wrong with Tankard, I just find them a bit out of their league when compared to Kreator, Destruction and Sodom. One of the other bands i've mentioned that aren't Tankard are a much more logical choice.

Metallica is a little bit more consistent but megadeth did the two best albums (Rust in Peace and Peace sells but who is buying?).

Anthrax > Slayer is purely subjective as I really only like one album by each: Among the Living and Reign in Blood

Sodom are pretty much the best Thrash Metal band in existence. There have been a handful of better Thrash albums than the ones Sodom have made but no one band has been as consistently as good.

GOAT Thrash album is still Aspid - Extravasation so everything after that can be up for debate. My second favourite is probably Dark Angel - Darkness Descends or Morbid Saint - Spectrum Of Death, maybe.

I never thought Anthrax had a consistent enough discography to be included in the conversation.

Dave Mustaine's voice makes Megadeth unbearable to me.

I don't listen to any of these bands enough to rank them but I always liked early Metallica the best.

Honestly I really love Among the Living. It's a fun album, a big problem with thrash is it's always so straight and serious and "brutal". Anthrax at least have fun and are a bit silly at times.

It just goes off the talent that they had surrounding them, Megadeth always had the best line up and never really had a Kerry King or Lars tier shitter until Dave became just that in the 90s, but he worked his way back to meh tier before James did so he has that over him at least.

Tbh I always thought these bands were pretty tacky. It's a shame that groups like Cro-Mags and Bathory didn't get more press at the time. It's also a shame that Dave Mustaine is such an unbearable person, since Megadeth is the only one of the big 4 that I actually enjoy listening to. I also wish Slayer sounded more like everyone says they sound like, which would be heavy, noisy, and hellish, and less like what they actually do sound like, which is a pretty light weight, cheesy hard rock band

Metallica always just sounded like some dorky jock dweeb trying his hardest to sound tough and do a Motörhead impression, and just sounding awkward and bad doing it. Like, you know the jock who was bad at all the sports, and he'd cry when he lost, and he'd bully the geeks to assert his social status, but none of the athletes liked him? This is his band.
I knew a couple kids like that. One dropped out of high school, had 2 kids as a teenager, and now drives a tow truck. The other is trying to make it as a battle rapper.
